Number Guard????

What is this Number Guard Nextel wants to give us. Read it in their nl and
hard to believe they are going to give us something free. Is there more to
this or is this a gimmick of sort?

If I remember correctly, Number Guard is supposed to prevent you from
getting slammed by another carrier. The program will not allow your number
to be ported to another carrier without your permission, which will become
a concern when WNLP hits next month.

An advantage to those who want to stay, and don't make it sound like this is
automatically added to each account- customers have to request it.

An advantage to those who want to stay, and don't make it sound like this is

One example is if someone with a similar number as yours tries to change =
carriers and the rep of that carrier keys in the wrong number (yours), =
you won't find someone else owning your number. Imagine trying to fix =
that problem.

When you're ready to change carriers yourself, you simply call Nextel =
and have Call Guard removed. Great service. If you ask me, Call Guard =
should be enabled by default.

I agree to a certain degree, but I think this was added as an optional
feature to make the initial round of porting as painless as possible for
the customer, and to not give the appearance of throwing obstacles in the
way of those who do want to switch.

The number guard gives them a chance to talk you out of leaving them and
taking your number to a different carrier. For example: if you do not have
number guard you just go to T-Mobile and say "I want service with you guys
and here is my number". But if you have number guard you must call Nextel
first and say "can you please release my number?" Is this a freebie or

Personally, I'd sign up for number guard willingly, having been through
it in the LD world I can just imagine what could happen with a cell...
