Hi,
Has anyone had any problems with this? I've got WAP setup correctly
on my SIM free bought 6600. I'm using a registered and comfirmed
working in a 7250 O2 Online PAYG SIM. The phone will connect to the
'O2 WAP' access point, but then nothing happens.
The digital call icon on the top right of the screen is present and
the letter 'D' orbits the earth, but no data is displayed the in
browser window - it remains on the shortcut page.
Thing is, I know WAP is working as third party applications I've
downloaded have access to the internet.
Anyone else have a similar problem?
Thanks,
paul

Paul,
I have EXACTLY the same problem. I bought a SIM free 6600 and am using
my O2 card in it, I can go directly to a wap page like Yahoo or
MOPILOT or any other but accessing the O2 Homepage seems impossible.
Like you it just sits there seemingly getting nowhere.
If I put my SIM card straight into my old SIM free 8310 it goes on
fine with no problems.
I configured the 6600 using Nokia's own website but as they dont give
O2 Dial Up as an option, only the GPRS option I used the 7650 settings
as its basically the same platform but I get the same problem as you.
I think the problem is with the WAP browser in the 6600 as with my
Orange SIM card GPRS connects OK but is far from quick like it is on
other phones. Plus the O2 wap when it works is horrendously slow at
accessing pages like Yahoo like I mentioned above.
I also use it to download my emails straight to the phone, and this
works fine at quite a quick speed so I would imagine the problem is
specifically the WAP software.
I have spoken to Nokia and have advised me to go to my nearest Nokia
servcie centre and get the phone software updated, this may help, but
if you find a resolution to it Id be grateful to know.
Cheers

Re: 6600 and WAP 'Services' Application.
Exactly the same for me.
I am on Orange, email comes in at a rate of knots but I cannot get anywhere
with wap. Used to work fine on my 6310i, which I have gone back to because
the 6600 will not divulge the address book to my BMW despite being seen and
registered to it.
I cannot collect email via IR either from my laptop.
Not impressed so for the time being have given up.
Be interested if the software upgrade fixes it.

Re: 6600 and WAP 'Services' Application.
At least we're not alone then..
It's strange because GPRS WAP works fine, its just GSM WAP... Whats
the procedure for getting your phone flashed then? Don't you have to
be on contract?
Thanks,

To get the phone flashed you just have to take it to your nearest
Nokia service centre. If you ring Nokia they should be able to provide
this info. To my knowledge you dont have to be on contract to get it
flashed as its a warranty job.
My 6600 is SIM free and is covered as its no different than buying a
DVD player from Currys and finding it faulty and getting a firmware
update.
The Service Centre should advise you to back the phone up. Whether
they do or not I would advise doing this. I had a 7650 updated once
ands all my data stayed to my amazement but my old 8310 got wiped
whent he software was updated.
I should have mine flashed by friday afternoon so will post a follow
up witht he software version and any improvements its made.
Also NOTE - On Orange they seem to modify the software to allow the
inclusion of the little "tape" symbol to notify you that you have a
new voicemail. This doesnt function on my 6600 as its SIM free so be
warned. If you have your 6600 purchased from Orange flashed you may
lose this functionality, and I would imagine Orange wouldnt be
interested in resolving this. Doesnt bother me personally as I dont
have any friends and noone ever rings me. ha ha
Paul.
