    I've just purchased a Nokia 6230.

According to the manufacturer the data cable DKU-2 (optional) is compatible
    with 6230.

I have a DKU-5 cable. What's the difference? Is it possible to use DKU-5,
instead of handing out extra money for DKU-2?

But the DKU-2 and DKU-5 use the Nokia Pop-Port, but they aren't compatible
    with each other.

For example the Nokia 7600 comes with the DKU-2 cable too.

I have tried the DKU-5 cable, and I did not get any contact between my PC
    and the phone.

However, I have tried IrDA, and it works to some extent. Connection has
    been
established, but I cannot get access to my phone using Nokia Phone Browser.
With Nokia Phone Browser (NPB) you shuld be able to get access to forlders
on the phone in a sinilar way as you get access to e.g. a hard disk or a
diskette. I used NPB with 3100 and other Nokia phones without problems.
    Have
you any idea of what goes wrong?

It's pop port any way you put it. Seems that Nokia does a modification to
    make more money.

Re: Nokia 6230 and data cable compatibility

yeah, hmmm, and get this, I just got a brochure from a phone shop for the
6230 and on the back it has DKU-5 as the connectivity cable, but on the
nokia web site it says the DKU-2 is the one for the 6230.??

Can I ask you something, does this mean that no connectivity cable comes
    with the phone?
I haven't bought the phone yet, I'm in australia, the phone is released but
I'm waiting for the price to come down a bit

    thanks

Sorry, mate, no cable comes with the phone. Maybe it isn't available yet,
anyway. At least it isn't available here in Norway, but it will be within
    a month, I believe.

I use IR. I purchased an IR-port for my PC and use this for transferring
data. Then there's no use for cable, really, and I can still use IR if I
change phone in the future, provided the new phone has an IR-port.

thanks for info, you might find that the IR transfer is probably quite slow
compared to cable especially if you want to transfer mp3 etc

    thanks

You're right, mate, transferring mp3 files is really slow.

Re: Nokia 6230 and data cable compatibility

Managed to transfer files without the Nokia data cable. I have a HP2210 PDA
which accepts SD, MMC and CF cards. I placed my Nokia 6230 MMC card into
the HP2210. I transfer my files (mp3s, GIF, ringtones, JPEG, etc) from my
    PC to the MMC card.

After transferring the MMC cards goes back to my phone and I can utilise all
    the music and ringtones.

    Cheers,
    Agnes

That's surely a fast solution, because it takes a long time to transfer
mp3 files to my 6230 using IrDA.

One can also use a card reader which also accepts SD, MMC and CF cards.

The only "catch" is that if you need to tranfer large files often, it's a
rather awkward operation on the 6230, since you have to shut down the
phone, remove the back cover and then remove the battery. After the data
has been transferred, you'll have to do the same operation in reverse
    order.

Siemens has a much more user friendly solution on their SX1, but I don't
think the SX1 keys look very user friendly.

    Thorolv
