As both serial ports on my box are in use, I got stupid and bought a
USB datacable of eBay for my 3595. Of course it doesn't work. I'm
hoping someone in here can give me the magic solution.
System: Windows Server 2003
USB serial 2 USB driver: Prolific USB-to-Serial v.2.0.0.18
I downloaded a trial version of MobiMB, but when I 'add connection' it
tells me after I reopen the properties window that the COM port is in
use by another app. I've tried setting the prolific from COM3 to COM4
as my mouse is on COM1. I have an external modem on COM2 but it is
switched off. I even tried disconnecting it. No joy. I've tried both
FBUS and DKU-4 as the connection type as the manual states DKU-5 for
USB cables and states FBUS as the connection for my 3595. Without any
luck.
I know it is not MobiMB, as the software suggested by the seller (MA
handset Manager) doesn't find the phone either. I had to remove the
little padded rectangle from around the pins on the cable's battery
adapter so it would fit my 3595 and stay in place. The cable is for
several phones in the 35xx series, including the 3595 but with the pad
in place it keeps on popping out.
I'm wondering if the cable is defective, but when I insert it the first
time after I install the driver, the system tells me what it found and
installs the ProLific driver. I've been trying to contact the seller by
email twice in the last 3 days and got an 'automated' "your item has
shipped' response on my first email, nothing addressing my problems.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

If the prolific drivers are installed and the device is detected OK, then
the COM port to use should be listed in the windows device manager under
'Ports', and also in the MobiMB connection manager ports dialog. Make sure
you have the right port, and also FBUS, which is the correct cable type for
your phone.
If you still get 'Port in use' then something is wrong - no other software
should be accessing the port at the time, though the Prolific drivers are
notorious for not reporting a port is closed yet when it is. It is likely
you have the correct port configuration, but the drivers or the cable aren't
connecting properly.
If you need to dig a bit more, write to LogoManager Support
http://www.logomanager.co.uk/support.php and we can send you some test
software to check out your cable etc. Also look at the knowledgebase there
to find out where to get the latest Prolific drivers.

The port is indeed listed (when the cable is inserted) both in windows
and in MobiMB. I've used FBUS and the Prolific port but still get the
'port in use'...

No other software is accessing the port that I know of so yes, it's
either the cable or the drivers. I did check the prolific site and
downloaded the latest drivers. With no improvement. The drivers are
signed and so should work just fine under 2003 server. They are the
only ones using the port, that is the weird thing...

Thanks. Just hit submit on that form. I'm pretty sure it's most likely
the driver... Still nothing from the seller, luckily I used my CC with
PayPal...
