I have downloaded 2 games (at a cost of £6) from the Nokia.co.uk web site
and neither of them worked.
It seems that when you request something and agree to pay for it, all you
get for your money is a txt message containing a URL. You are then charged
for the games even if the URL fails to work. A faily bad system as far as I
can see (unless you are Nokia).
Now, this is a problem, but not nearly as much of a problem as the fact that
it seems impossible to contact Nokia about this. They have my cash and there
is nothing I appear to be able to do.
I can't find any contact information within the shop itself, it looks very
much like one way traffic - you spend cash and they hide.
I did find a 'customer services' email addresss- which does not appear to be
monitored - or if it is, nobody has bothered to reply to me.
Finally, I called their customer services "hot line" which is constantly
busy and I had to leave a message (being on hold will have cost me a fair
bit too). So far, nobody has called me back.
So - I am £6 down plus phone call money and have no possible come back on
them - except the time and expense of writing to them on paper. So, I won't
be shopping at Nokia again!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So, were you unable to download at all or did you manage to download the
game file and the games just didn't work?
How do you know that you were really charged that £6? Usually those
downloads use failsafe system that cancels the charge if download fails.

On one, the URL connected to a browser and the file downloaded but would not
intall (file corrupt or some such msg). Tried that a few times (more
expense). On the other, the URL just appeared not to work.
I got 4 text messages an hour or so after trying the downloads saying I had
been charged £6. I don't get my mobile bill for another few weeks, but given
I got the texts saying I have been billed, I can only assume I will be
billed.
Whatever the case, there is NO excuse for Nokia hiding behind a web site
with no real contact information on it. Something I may well discuss with
trading standards.

There *are* addresses on the UK website, you've just got to dig; there
are two postal addresses for mobiles in the UK. Use the customer Web
form and the chances are it will be passed to Club Nokia. In which case,
you'll probably get a standard "I'm sorry you are dissatisfied with our
services" type stuff. They seem to use stonewall templates to respond,
as I've personally found on numerous occasions when politely reporting
bugs with firmware. Your mileage may vary.
As good as the 6230 is, my next phone won't be a Nokia for this reason.

Here's the reply I received (you can guess the question I asked):
"Dear Customer,
Thank you for contacting Nokia Software Market by Digital River.
If you don't receive the message we are not responsible for it.
If you have any further questions or concerns, please "reply" to this
e-mail.
Sincerely,
Customer Service
Nokia Software Market by Digital River, Inc.
[email protected]"
And that was that!
They then failed to respond to any further queries about the message
that I never received. It is almost beyond belief, in my opinion, that
Nokia allow Digital River to rip off Nokia customers this way.
Anyway, £6 lost (yep, me too), but a lesson learned: never, ever, do
business with Digital River (and maybe Nokia as well) again.

I bought a game but the URL failed to arrive at all. Emailed them. Got an
email back with a link. Went to the link. Emailed back the requested
information. Got an email back containing the information I'd just sent
them sending me back to the page with the link again, which in turn asked
for the same information. Worse still, the last email came from the address
given on the site as the customer services address but containing a line
saying not to reply by email to that address as it was automated and not
monitored. What a crock.

Thanks for all that feedback , will DEFINATELY be calling trading standards
and letting them know its not just me. Nokia should be ashamed of
themselves, Digital River are obviously dodgy - but when I have complained
it was to NOKIA though - so they have no excuse either.
Will update the group with my findings from trading standards.

This sort of thing is so stupid, since it's their loss in the end.
All they are doing is creating a greater number of pissed off
customers who will look for free downloads/cracked software instead
of paying, or just not bother.
The one and only time I bought a ringtone from Orange, it arrived,
but my phone (a rather flakey 3510i that Orange provided) crashed
and had to be reflashed, losing the tone.
I called Orange and explained, asking them to resend, but they
refused point blank. I cannot see how sending the tone twice to the
same number could be a problem to them?
Anyway, last time I ever buy a tone. Now I have a 6600, and I make
my own or download them.

OK, get this (they just get WORSE and WORSE).
I eventually found a number for Nokia Digital Services 08450 456789 by
calling their main switch and pretending to need something from corporate
sales.
They said they acknowledge the problem and they have pulled ALL Nokia 6600
and 7610 games from the site due to problems. There is no mention of this
ANYWHERE on the site. Just how many people will , like me, now be feeling
ripped off and with no possible way of contacting the vendor.
Incidentally, the customer services numbers ALL take you to voice mail (and
I have had 3 messages ignored) unless you are a club nokia member (if you
are not a club nokia member you have the option of using a premium rate
number - hurrah!).
Anyway, the upshot of the conversation was they YES you need a refund, but
we can't just give you one - you MUST write to us and supply us with your
bank details. Nokia Finland apparently insist on this.
So now I have to waste more time and money writing a letter to them.
Wankers!
PS. Haven't run trading standards yet but I will be doing.

not download correctly or the 2nd or the 3rd. But all three were
charged on my bill.
Customer service at AT&T has turned into a joke over the years.

Tradings standards are on the case, my local office will be talking to
Cambridge office (as its in their area). They have advised me to ask for all
expenses back (calls/GPRS/Time). Apparently they skive out of being in
breach of the distance selling directive as there is a postal address
somewhere on the web site (although it takes some tracking down). TS are
still going to follow up though - especially given the admission from Nokia
that all games for 2 popular phones will not have worked for anyone (despite
being charged) and most people can't find any sensible means of contacting
Nokia.
Time to write my letter ;-)
