I cannot use the 7600 as a modem.
I have tried connecting my laptop with the USB cable supplied and
everything works (e.g. phone book contacts etc) but the modem. There
is no error message, the fax just doesn't get sent (it doesn't dial up
and ring - I tried it with my house phone so I know) and there is a
"line error".
I got a bluetooth dongle, uninstalled the software above and installed
the bluetooth drivers. Again, everything else works but the modem
doesn't. Again, no error, just the fax not getting sent.
I tried doing all the above from my PC and get exactly the same
problem!
Both my PC and laptop work fine in every other way and can send and
receive faxes using their own modems.
As to mdoem driver, for the USB cable setup I used the driver on the
Nokia CD. For the bluetooth setup I tried both the automatic Microsoft
modem driver and the Nokia driver from the website. The result was the
same. No error, just no fax getting sent and a line error.
Three Mobile's call centre claims that the 7600 doesn't have a modem
and that everything Nokia says to the contrary is wrong!!! Nokia
charges almost £1 a minute for support, which I can't afford.

Re: Nokia 7600 Modem?
Monk,
I have the same problem, so I e-mailed Nokia, and this is what they said...
***********
The error "Carrier Not Detected" indicates that CSD (Circuit Switched Data)
has not been activated. When you are trying to dial directly to your ISP
your phone uses CSD, which is not supported by AT&T Wireless' network.
The Nokia 6820 phone can be used, as a modem only if your service provider's
network supports Circuit-Switched Data (CSD) or GPRS (General Packet Radio
Services) a subscription to these services may also be necessary.
AT&T does support GSM Nokia phones that use GPRS to be used as modems.
Please contact AT&T for availability of GSM Nokia phones supported in your
area. Also, when using GPRS service your service provider becomes your ISP.
**************
I e-mail this to AT&T to see their response. I'm sure it is most likey
another sales scam where their sales people say "Yes it can" when in
reality, it can if you're willing to pay for additional services. Gees, My
moble phone from 10 years ago would act as a modem...FREE....that's
progress.
**************
If you have found anything else out, I would appreciate knowing what you
found.
