OK, resolved. The replacement SIM card (card #2) I got yesterday was
bad. I went to the local store, had them cut me a new SIM, and it's
working like a charm. Let's see if the intermittent problem I
originally had with card #1 resurfaces, now that I have a new phone and
    new card.

Now for the kicker. The new phone is working fine, but I got errors
when trying to restore the backup I made of the original phone.
Something about the new phone having a different language than the
original. Seems silly, as they are the same model (but, the new one is
    a later firmware, v. 4.83 19-05-04). Anyway, I restored anyway.
Contacts and so forth came through OK, but not any settings or shortcuts
    or voice tags.

DRAT. Now I have to re-record them all, reset my profiles, etc.

And, I was hoping that a bluetooth headset connectivity issue would be
resolved with the new phone, but no such luck.

    Marc

You should have made the backup with the 3rd radiobutton in PC suite, not
with the first. It says so in the help (but who reads that? I also found
out when I called customer support. Fortunately I still had the old phone).

You meant the "Transfer contents" buttons? Sheesh. I would have
thought making a backup would just grab everything. Oh well. Live and
    learn.

    Yes.

It does, buyt it can't restore it always. I don't know why.
