Until yesterday afternoon, when I received an SMS on my 6600, the display
light would come on and the phone would beep and vibrate - as set in the
    profile.

Now, when an SMS is received, the envelope appears on the main screen, but
there is no beep or vibration. In fact the display light doesn't even come
on when an SMS is received. I have no way of knowing I've received an SMS
except to check the display from time to time for the envelope icon.

I've checked the SMS settings and cant see anything wrong. The profile is
set to General which hasn't been altered and SMS tones are set to on. I've
made no changes to cause this.

Does anyone have any useful ideas??

Symbian OS can be horribly like Windows in its ability to do strange things
for no apparent reason. Sorry to go straight the obvious but have you tried
    rebooting the phone?

    Thanks Rob.

The answer was to reformat the memory card. I had the phone set to use the
memory card to store messages and it appears to have corrupted a folder. I
also had two draft messages I couldnt delete (accidentally saved when I
pressed Cancel instead of C to remove a chanacter).

I backed up the card, reformatted it and copied my pics, movies and sounds
to it and all is back to normal again.
