If it works for speed cameras, they will make a mint from it!

Sounds like a solution where the camera is supposed to cooperate.
    Probably useless in practise.

Yeh, I can't see how it would effectively work.

In some environments, it might work. Imagine a sign at the entrance of
the (whatever the press is interested in) location:

"Photographers please have your equipment ready for inspection. Cameras
that do not comply with HP privacy standard not permitted inside".

I doubt it. Even the hysteric reactions from certain corporate types on
camera phones in general are starting to weaken.

This is not a simple yes or no situation. I have sympathy with
corporate skepticism concerning cameras in *some* environments. That
same corporate types might *love* some publicity though, if they could
    only control it.

"Hey, we could use some public attention. Let's get the press folks in
here, but only those with an HP privacy compliant camera".

For some, it may turn out to be a win-win situation.

For the media, the HP privacy standard might open doors that heretofore
    used to be closed.

For interested parties, it might allow some useful publicity where it
    used to be too risky.

Yeh, but it will only work with co-operation of *EVERYONE* and I can't
    see that happening!
