Nokia 6230 modem driver problems (accessing net via IR & Laptop)

Hi All,

I am trying to setup my laptop to work with my 6230 to access the net via
Infrared but am having a lot of problems. Firstly I downloaded PC Suite 5.8
and it didn't work so after reading some people saying IR is not compliant
under XP for v5.8 so I upgraded to 6.4.1 (latest version). The problem is
under the Modem options I only see the laptop 56k modem and despite
downloading the Nokia 6230 modem driver to the desktop (from Nokia site) and
right clicking and installing the Modem is not under the modem options. I
have also tried installing it through the wizard but I cannot see the
"standard Modem over IR link" and cannot actually see any options when I
click "Have Disk"

I don't know what else I can do. When I activate IR on the phone and put it
near the IR of the laptop it says Nokia 6230 in range however I cannot get
the modem to work so I can access the net via IR on GPRS.

Any help would me much appreciated.

I have no idea if this will be of use to you...

Besides downloading the entire PC Suite 6.41, I also downloaded the IrDA
file 'Nokia6230IrDA_2000_XP.inf' and installed it independently, and still
couldn't get my IR-connected 6230 to show up in my list of installed modems.
I looked thru the aforementioned .inf file and noticed the following
section:

[Nokia]
%Nokia1%=Nokia1,IRENUM\NMPV-6230
%Nokia1%=Nokia1,IRENUM\RH-12

However, I have a US version of the 6230 which ID's itself (using *#0000#)
as an RH-28. So on a lark, I modified the 'RH-12' entry to 'RH-28',
re-installed the .inf file, and now the phone shows up in the list of
installed modems.

Though I realize you're posting from the UK, I thought this might at least
give you something to go on. Can anyone confirm that the RH-12/RH-28
difference is what distinguishes a US 6230 from a UK/Euro one? And do the
drivers and installers account for this?

Hi,

I reduced the speed of the IR port to 115 000 and then the port worked.

You must have admin rights to do that. I used standard IR modem that comes
with XP.

Thanks for the advice.

I opened up the ,inf file and checked the versions and my Nokia version is
the same as the one within the .inf file. (RH-12)
