Just outta curiosity - anyone got any comments on the nokia 6260 flip phone?
looking through the group i cant see it ever being mentioned - is it that
bad??
I was thinkin of getting one cos of the document reader functionality, - I
work
on the road but often people sent me urgent faxes. If they send to the
office
they have t wait for me to pick then up - can b a few days, or send to my
mobile fax
number - i have too find a fax to print them on.
I'm guessin the doc reader has the functionality to read these faxes
Thanks in advance,
Rick

I just purchased a used one on Ebay to try it out -- saw it in Hong Kong
last December and thought it was great. Will let you know in a couple of
weeks how it is.
I am accustomed to a bar phone and do not care for the idea of flipping
it open -- and when someone is calling the 6230, on the outside you only
see a light flashing -- no external screen sufficiently large for numbers
or names.

I have had a 6260 for about 4 months now and have no major complaints apart
from the resolution of the camera could be better. The flip and twist screen
is quite handy for lining up those self portraits with assembled drunk
people then checking to see if any of the photos match the strange girl
wondering about my flat on Sunday morning.
The radio in the 6260 is ok, nothing special but again nothing to write home
about. The Real player for playing mp3's does on some tracks at high
compression does have an annoying clicking sound sometimes. The call quality
is fine, but again nothing spectacularly different from other Nokias. The
screen is a good size for viewing web pages and Word/PowerPoint documents,
but not as good as a dedicated pda/phone like the 02 XDA. The optional
bluetooth keyboard is a handy gadget for when you want to
email/messenger/edit text but is pricey at around £80-120, and that's if you
can get it. The phone's keypad is ok for making small amendments to
documents but I wouldn't like to try and type anything more than about 50
words in one go. Also, if you get sent password protected documents, these
won't open in the phone.
I have had up to 512 Mb RSMMC cards in the phone with no problems but I
don't know if there is an upper limit on memory the phone will recognise.
The RSMMC cards it takes are the single voltage ones, so extra memory above
the supplied 32Mb card is fairly cheap.
I can't think of anything else of note with the phone, but I would guess if
your main reason to getting one is to view word documents, and there isn't
another phone that allows you to do this, then it probably won't be the
worst phone you've ever owned.

Re: Nokia 6260 clamshell phone
Had my 6260 since last xmas and I'm really pleased with it, it does
everything i want (and more). I've put a 512mb card it so i can use it as an
mp3 player too.
As for the 'mobile office' thing, I've set an e-mail account up on mine so I
can get doc's e-mailed to me as attachments.

But with a 6260 you can twist it and fold it shut with the screen facing out
if you need to see incoming calls, also you can turn off the active flip so
it doesn't answer the call when you open it until you press one of the keys.

Great thoughts which will suffice for much of the usage, but not for when
the phone rings and you pull it out of your pocket or belt clip case.

Not sure I understand where your coming from, when my 6260 rings I pull it
from my pocket and flip it open, if the display shows a number I don't want
to accept I just close the flip again, which rejects the call, many would
consider this an easier option than trying to press a key to reject the call
at the risk of accidently pressing the wrong key and answering it!

Cheers for all the feedback ppl, was startin' to think I was imagining the
phone existed.
Think am gonna go ahead n get one this week then - was stuck between the
6260 and the siemens sk65.
The sk65 has a poorer screen though, an' no cam. I know its got black-berry
wotsit fingy... (my techno-jargon) but that doesnt have that many advantages
above a plain old e-mail client from what I can see.
Just one more question... Anyone know if the 6260 will sync with outlook
2003?
Ta again

Just upgraded mine to 512mb RSMMC as well. And by the way, the original
and the new one are dual voltage 1.8/3.0.
Still enjoying the phone; however haven't yet had time to work with most
of what it has to offer. If you purchase a new or used phone, ensure
that it has a manual in your language for they are practically impossible
to obtain in the USA -- NokiaUSA does not have them because the phone is
not sold in this country. NokiaUK will not deal with anyone outside of
the UK. And could not locate anything relative in the Nokia-Europe site,
although one would think that the home office would be the logical place.
So what I did was to two-side print the 200-page on-line PDF, then join
it with two small binder rings. Now it's possible to make notes in the
margin and refer to it as needed -- However, the table of contents is
quite spartan and it does not have an index so it takes some time to
locate info.
Also I added a Jabra Bluetooth 250v which is excellent and purchased a
USB cable, but for some reason the Nokia PC Suite will download, but will
not complete installation on my XP computer. I called NokiaUSA support
and was told that it's the fault of my computer and I promptly told him
that his company was supplying the install program, not me. Has anyone
else experienced this?
