I read that this phone (Nokia 6682) had many problems. But most of
this info was dated at the end of 05.

Before I knew about the existing or perhaps now, past problems I was
    thinking about getting one.

Is it true that there was a new firmware (4.xx) update which resolved the
    issues?

Thanks in advance for any info you can provide.

i've had one for about a month, no issues other than having to be very
careful about which RS-MMC dual voltage card you get. make sure its
listed as "MMC Mobile" and not just "dual voltage RS-MMC"... other than
that, check out yahoo-to-go available only for the 6682. automatic
syncing of your photos... (contacts and such too, but the auto
uploading of photos is the coolest thing...)

Cingular borked up their custom branded nokia firmware, though they will
deny it to your face. The cingular problems were "fixed" by upgrading to the
new 3G SIM card. If your 6682 from cingular doesn't work out of the box then
just go back in and ask to upgrade to the newest 3G style SIM. If you are
lucky you will get a cingular tech that may actually understand what you are
talking about. If not, just tell them you want one of the new SIM's as your
current one appears to have been damaged by static electricity after you
were walking around your house in a pair of wool socks while talking on your
    old phone.

DV-RS-MMC chips are what everyone is calling "MMCMobile." The 6682 takes
Dual Voltage Reduced Size MultiMedia Cards, not just RS-MMC cards. I haven't
tried any of the cheapy dvrsmmc cards yet.

The nokia branded 6682 firmware is up to 4.62.0 *I think.* I got my 6682 off
of ebay and have the infamous cingular branded 3.01.1. I've only had a
couple small problems like the phone shuts off randomly, and when you turn
it back on it's lost it's location/time/date. Since I did ebay it I'm pretty
much SOL trying to get the firmware updated by any *legal* means. I have no
idea why nokia doesn't allow intelligent end users to upgrade their own
firmware. I think this falls under the "scary" thought of allowing us
customers to actually do things like switch carriers and nuke all of
cingular's add in junk. I'm pretty much of the mind set that it's my bloody
phone, I can switch carriers or upgrade firmware all I want with the stupid
thing. Sony Ericcson and a host of others don't seem to have this anal
retentive mind set with their phones firmware. I can only think this is one
of a myriad of reasons that nokia has not only fallen off of the top of the
cell phone heap, they are rapidly trying to dig their way down to the bottom
    of it.

Unfortunately I'm reduced to running around on kiddie haxor boards just so I
can find a firmware image and some burning software simply to use my phone
to the extent I want to use it. I may cry to nokia and then send my phone
off to texas to get the new firmware burned for me. This will take them up
to 10 days to do something I could do myself in about 10 minutes.

Other than that, it really is a pretty cool phone. I just want the latest
firmware and it's been teeth-pullingly difficult to get it.

I've got a 6682 with 4.62.0 and it seems to work pretty well.

I was able to pop in the SIM from my 3600 and it just worked.
