Nokia 6102i ?

I am up for a free upgrade from Cingular and was wondering what anyone
thought about the 6102i. This is actually for my 17 y\o daughter who as most
teens aren't really careful with the phone she now has a Moto551, has been a
very good phone but is now getting kind of old. I have an old trusty 6010
and absolutely love the reliability and reception on this so was wondering
about the flip Nokia.

I have a 6102i. I like it but it isn't without it's limitations. I
wouldn't complain about reception. It does support mp3 rings but
doesn't have any built-in music player. It's not real good for Internet
browsing but I don't know of any cellular phone that is. Maybe a smart
phone would be better for that.

The other popular complaint is the camera quality. It is less than 1
megapixel. Photos will look fine on the phone itself but will be poor
once tranferred to a computer.

I've found battery life to be very good unless you use the bluetooth
and/or EDGE a lot. The screen is bright and clear. The phone is a
little more bulky than some because of it's high quality exterior LCD
screen. But it's not as long, or shall I say high, as some of the new
candybar phones.

The EDGE service works quite well, and so does the bluetooth. I use
the 6102i as a modem for my notebook when I need Internet service in a
pinch. Since I have MEdiaNET unlimited on my plan, I can use it this
way as much as I like. I use a bluetooth adapter on my laptop to
connect to the phone and then the phone dials the EDGE connection. I
end up with a 20K to 120K connection depending what kind of service I
have and what kind of towers are in the area.

While I highly recommend the 6102i, I'd advise you to read other
reviews at Amazon, phonescoop, etc. The feeling I get is that the 6102i
doesn't have the WOW factor, or shall we say, it doesn't make the bold
statement that some of the newer phones, such as the RAZR do. While
this doesn't bother me, it might affect a 17 yr. old who is concerned
about being up with all they cool kids.

Thanks Harlan, it sounds pretty much like what I am after, she doesnt need
internet or any of the fancy stuff just good reception, battery life and
lets not forget texting. I guess for free I cant expect too much but all I
have ever had was Nokia and have been very pleased with it. As for the WOW
factor that can be taken care of when she gets a J.O.B. and buys her own.

And I should mention, since you mentioned it, that I love Nokia's text
features. I use it daily. I always use the predictive text input and
I love it. Nokia has one of the best systems, I think.

I realize there are some T9 dictionarys or predictive text input
systems that start guessing what word you are trying to ***** before
you typed all the letters. Nokia's doesn't do that. But I love it
anyway. I find it to be simple and intuitive, but also very powerful.

i have a Nokia 6800 which is equipped with a QWERTY keyboard, it's
great for text messaging and have a good reception. I bought it on
ebay, Cingular offers me a free Samsung D807 slider phone, but i like
6800 so much and have been using it instead of D807
