I found this webpage a few months ago:
http://greattop.en.alibaba.com/produ...okia_6030.html
they say it's for 6030 and 1600.
Nokia say there is no USB data cable for el cheapo 1600. The socket is
only for their
service equipment, to upgrade firmware or such things.
So I am curious about this item. Has anybody tried it?

Indeed these cables do work with the 1600, however beware what people
claim you can do with them with your particular phone. Many cable
vendors on eBay and elsewhere seem to imply that you can manage the
1600/2600 et al. just like any other Nokia (and just to irritate me
with a whole pile of tech. support they love to include old pirate
versions of my software with the driver CD as though they will be of
any use).
This is just not the case. For example, on the web page you quoted,
the "SMS sending" claims in particular are not even supported by the
Nokia 1600, no matter what software you have.
Although the 1600 and 6030 use the same cable, the 1600's PC
communications capability is much more limited due to it being a
so-called "low-end" phone. Now, that is not to say that a lot of
things are impossible, just that there isn't much software out there
that you can use with it.
For this reason, I have just finished working on MobiFX, a new
LogoManager-style application for these phones (including the Nokia
11xx, 1600, 2300, 2310 and 2600):

It is currently in public beta, so feedback is very welcome! If people
are interested in MobiFX for other models as well, then please do say
which ones and I'll try to add them for you.
MobiFX is only for logos at the moment, but you can use MobiMB to
transfer MIDI ringtones to the phones above:

As for phonebook management, forget it - the phonebook support in the
firmware partially works, but is very flaky and doesn't support the SIM
area at all.

Re: unoffical data cable for Nokia 1600?
I was at a flea market, and some bloke was selling mobile phone
accessories. I got a
"CA45" cable there, sealed in a plastic bag with no company name. It
has on the plug
USB DATA CABLE with a long number underneath, that I can't read as the
digits are
too small. When I try to plug it in to my 1600, I have to push quite
hard. So I think
it is probably the dodgy made in China crap. I reckon after a dozen
insertions, you
would bugger up the socket on the phone and a proper Nokia cable would
fall out
