If you've downloaded it to the computer use the data-cable and connect it
in Mass storage mode and move the SIS-file to the phone, or connect in
PC-suite mode and install via PC-suite.
If you've downloaded it directly to the phone, just install the theme (has
to be a .sis or .sisx).

You mean where on the phone to place it? Anywhere as it's an installer
(like when you install Winamp or Firefox to your computer) so it will then
place the actual theme in the correct system folders - that you can't
access without hacking the device.

The files are .sis files, when I access my phone (when I have it attached to
my PC via usb cable) I get two sections, card memory and phone memory. In
phone memory are the following files, Games, Images, installs, j2ME, Nokia,
Others, sounds, videos and VodafoneIdle. in Memory card I have Data, Images
, Installs, sounds and system.
I have tried to move the .sis fils downloade to various files like Installs
or Nokia but to no avail
When I try to look for the files via the phone itself I can't, so I am
stymied.

Use the file browser in the phone and go to the same folder when it's no
longer connected to the computer.
Then install it.

S60 themes are no different from applications- you install them the same
way using .SIS/.SISX files. Try this- create a new folder on your memory
card and copy the sis files there (using your USB cable or bluetooth)
Then disconnect your phone from the PC, use the phone browser to browse
and select the theme.
When prompted to install to phone memory or memory card, choose phone
memory- themes installed to the memory card can cause problems sometimes
(slowing down UI response time).
