what's the big deal about TDMA?
does this mean i SHOULDN'T buy a TDMA phone? how long before it's
ACTUALLY phased out and replaced by GSM? particularly in the
Cincinnati/Northern Kentucy area?
i currently have a CDMA phone that's absolutely HORRIBLE. i get alot of
dropped calls, network busy & roaming when i'm in the city. the battery
life is a joke - i'm charging it at least three times a day. WORST thing
i ever did in my life was switching to SPRINT.
before that i had an IDEN phone from NEXTEL. battery was okay. reception
was pretty good, in hind sight, but the plan sucked. i read somewhere
that IDEN is actually TDMA with a different name. anyone know if that's
true?
now i'm looking into CINGULAR. the phone i like the most is a TDMA
phone....the Nokia 3560. i'm not big on extra features like games,
sounds, download capability and stuff like that. i just want a phone
with good reception and EXCELLENT battery life (my avg usage is around
90minutes PER call).
can anyone tell me if it would be a bad idea to buy this phone because
of TDMA? i haven't had any experience with GSM but IDEN was good enough
for me.

Re: TDMA vs GSM
Why not get the Nokia 6340i for free from Cingular. It does both
GSM and TDMA, plus has PDA features, sync to Outlook with free
software download, battery life is 6 hrs GSM use and 21 days
standby, email, web browsing, etc. The only negative is the
internal antenna on the back gets shielded when you lay it down.
I understand that Cingular is indeed switching from TDMA to GSM.
On their web site somewhere is a little note at the bottom that
says something about the schedule for a few states.
