Unfortunately, your in a bit of a "sticky-wicket". The 9290 doesnt have
GPRS. Thus the only method of connection to the internet is through CSD
(circuit switched data). CSD requires you to connect to a modem pool. The
BIG problem is, even though TMOBILE has a modem pool to connect to (and
thats a touchy subject lately, rumour mill says its going the way side, CSD
eats bandwith and is not real profitable) it uses your minutes. Your
unlimited internt is worthless package on this phone. So you need to contact
TMOBILE, have them walk ypou through the configuration of the CSD dial up,
and remove the Internet option off that phone. Then you need to decide if
your plan will work with this phone. Good Luck

Nokia 9290 - how to set up Internet Access Point?

    Hello!

I have a Nokia 9290 Communicator (v. 5.70 OS) and I'm trying to set it up for Web
browsing. I purchased the T-Mobile Unlimited Internet Add-on when I bought the phone, and
I thought that would be the vehicle through which I would surf the web with the 9290.
However, when I examine the Internet Access Point stuff, it appears as if it's a setup to
connect to a dial-up ISP. That is, I have to use some existing (and separate)
modem-capable ISP for Web browsing capability with the 9290. Is this the case? Or should
I contact T-Mobile to get the scoop?

Thanks for any help you can provide!

    Thanks, TM!

Ugh! If I'm understanding you correctly, it sounds like the Internet capabilities of this
phone are somewhat overstated. I'll give T-Mobile a call, and find out what the scoop is.
I take it, then, that the Unlimited Internet isn't really applicable to this phone (as it
    might be with GPRS-enabled phones)?

    Thanks again for your help!

I don't know anything about the Unlimited Internet package from T-Mobile,
but at a guess, this is access to WAP (Mobile Internet), as opposed to
    dial-up Internet access.

If it's WAP access, you can find details on setting up WAP at
www.filesaveas.com/9210wap.html. For details of setting up dial-up access,
see www.filesaveas.com/9210connect.html . Best bet is to look at the
connection settings you've been given by T-Mobile, and see whether it's Web
    or WAP...

    Regards,

    Pete

    Thanks, Pete!

I think the T-Mobile Unlimited Internet Add-on was potentially for a GPRS-enabled phone.
I signed up for a lesser service from T-Mobile (T-Zones unlimited Web) for their WAP
service. I was examining the 9290's dial-up service, but am a little disappointed in its
11440 bps maximum rate. Most web pages are *slow*, but I'm encouraged to see that it
    works! :-)

Thanks for your help and the links!

Change to Orange and you'll get speeds of 28,000 bps.
Still not quick but far better than 14,000.

Re: Nokia 9290 - how to set up Internet Access Point?

    Hello, Alan!

I'd *love* to be able to switch to 28800, but I don't know what this "Orange" is that you
speak of. Is that a purchase-able product that is sort of like an additional Dial-Up
    Networking program?

    Thanks!
