I have 3 Nokias - 6800, 3210e and an antique 6150.
Each has a different charger with different output volts and amps (the 6800
and 6150 are very similar).
Each charger/phone uses the same plug type into the phone.
Sometimes I have used the wrong charger on a phone and it seemed to work OK.
Also I have noticed mobile phone chaging stations in airports etc. and they
offer just one outlet for any Nokia phone, i.e. they seem to use the same
volts/amps for all Nokias.
Does it really matter which charger I use for these phones? I ask because I
have lost the charger for the 3210 and prefer to use one of the others to
buying a new one (of course!).
And I wonder whay Nokia don't simply use a standard voltage charger for all
their phones, rather than have to stock and sell so many different ones....

Re: Nokia chargers - does it matter which one I use?
I don't know if it does any damage to the battery but i always use and old
charger i got with my Nokia5110 to charge my 7650 & 7210 because it takes
longer but gives a better charge (ie longer battery life between charges)
than the new rapid chargers that came supplied with the phones. But i don't
know what effect using a new charger on an older phone would have.

they do have a standard charger, the variations are all in the form of rapid
and travel charger variants. all nokia phone use the same charger, with the
exception being that some older nokias don't like the rapid chargers, you
can't do any damage using a wrong one, and the phone will tell you if it
doesn't work - "not charging" message. It can also refresh some batteries
by using a standard charger (ACP-7) in place of a rapid charger (ACP-8/9/12)
occasionally.

Re: Nokia chargers - does it matter which one I use?
My phone displays "NOT CHARGING" (I am almost certain it's damaged).
What can I do to make it charge using its normal charger again? I
have an ACP-7 and an ACP-8 at my disposal. Thanks!

Thanks. Finally I did the obvious and looked on the Nokia website where
http://www.nokia.com/nokia/0,5184,5996,00.html confirms that most modern
Nokias can use the same chargers.
My old 6150 is not listed but its charger is anyway almost the same spec as
the new 6800.
I still wonder why the lost 3210e charger had a much different voltage
(about 3.5 I think, instead of 6 and 7 on the other 2) as well as amperage,
but it all seems to work somehow.

The 6150 came with the same charger as the 3210 I think, 3.3v something or
other (more cube like plug than the modern ones )

try buyinh/swapping off a ACP7 from a friend. one of those works great for
almost all nokias.

Some chargers sold for Nokia phones have an extra ring on the barrel of
the coaxial power plug. It's almost as though they're designed for 2
different types of phones, which have the ground connection at different
levels of the plug. Which is which, and what is the difference?

IIRC, its to make sure DCT3 chargers dont get plugged into DCT2 handsets and
vice versa..imagine what pure 12V DC would do to a DCT3 3310...heh heh

Between which two of the three contacts (tip, top ring, bottom ring) on
this combined plug is 12VDC supposed to be present at?
