I'va had this problem for a while where the volume of the speaker fades in
and out. Most of the time its inaudible. The fitter reckons it must be the
phone(maybe FW) as we tried his same phone and it was OK.

Anyone heard of this and how they fixed it. Right now the car kit is
    unusable

    Kit: standard Nokia
Car: Ford Focus, seperate loudspeaker not through radio

    Thanks

There's two reasons for this that I've experienced. One is just normal
signal dropout. Remember that when you are travelling along in a car the
signal strength can fluctuate very quickly by a large amount and recover
well before the signal strength meter has time to update the display (about
once every two seconds or so). This results in what sounds like the volume
dropping out on the speaker. There is no cure for this, but you can make
sure you have a decent aerial that has either a wired or through glass
external monopole (the bit that sticks up from your roof/window) and make
    sure the connections are good.

You can check if it's the above problem by seeing if stopping the car in a
quiet area stops the speaker problem. Remember that big lorries driving past
you can also greatly (but briefly) change your signal strength and quality.

The other thing it can be (in my experience) are the connecters at the
bottom of the cradle. I found that some of these don't push out as far as
they used to after some time, and they don't make as good a contact. Make
sure none of these are damaged and they all feel firm (but springy) when you
press them. It may also be worth cleaning the contacts and the connectors on
the bottom of the phone with a cotton bud and some alcohol.

I have not seen a speaker volume/drop out problem related to firmware on the
6310i (or any phone for that matter), although it is listed in the change
logs that there have been "improvements" related to car kit usage.

What I would do is find somebody who has a compatible phone (there are loads
that work with the Cark 91, off the top of my head 5110, 6150, 6210, 6310,
6310i, 7110), and see if you still have the same problems. You could also
check to see if your firmware is actually different from the fitter's phone
    (*#0000# to display version).
