Is there any way to have instant messaging (not short mail) on my
Sanyo 8100 work like Instant Messaging is supposed to work? That is, I
want to be notified when I receive a message and be able to quickly
read the message and respond. I prefer to use IM because that's what
the rest of the world is using, not short mail from Sprint! Anyway,
it's pretty lame if you have to actually keep going into IM on the
phone to see if someone has send a message.
Thanks.

Re: Instant Messaging on a Sanyo 8100
SprintPCS does not yet support SMS messaging, and its not obvious that the 8100
will support it when it does.
If you had a Palm phone (and the Treo 300 can be had for as little as $99 now)
then you could use something like AOL's Instant Messaging.

You should get a notification alert from Sprint on your phone if
someone sends you a text message or instant message. But you will
still have to log on to see what the message is. But, no, you
shouldn't have to log on to see if a message is there -- a notification
is sent if someone sends you one.
The newer phones (such as the nokia 3588i) have real sms text messaging
built in but it is not activated yet on the Sprint network.
Love,
Phillipe

Nope, I don't get a notification when Yahoo Instant Messages come into
my phone. I do get a notice when I get a Sprint PCS short mail, but
not from a Yahoo IM.

Re: Instant Messaging on a Sanyo 8100
Check and see if there is a settings option anywhere with the yahoo im. If
so, you may just need to turn on that part of it. With AIM, notifications
are sent.

Re: Instant Messaging on a Sanyo 8100
Sorry about the double post, but www.3gupload.com has a free app called
AirIM.jad that should run yahoo im and send notifications.
