Best Flip Phone made by Sprint

I have the Sanyo 4900 and have been very pleased with it.
One *minor* complaint: I accidently call people. Or worse, it will go
into "Silence all" mode, again, inadvertantly.

Naturally the answer is to Lock the kepad, but after *every* call?

So, I'm thinking of getting a flip phone. I have an Olympus Digital
Camera, that serves me well.

My first choice would be a flip phone that is as good as the 4900,
(with a speakerphone). But that's 'prolly vaporware:

What I'm Looking for in a flip phone:

Call quality. i.e. the phone has good sensitivity. i.e.the ability to
detect *and hold onto* incoming and outgoing calls.

Battery life. I could (and probably will) buy the stronger battery at
the time of purchase, than the one that comes with the unit, so I get
longer battery life but I do want the longest battery life in a flip
phone.

the 5400 or the 5500 of sanyo will probably be great, but they will probably
have bugs for a little while, the 5300 from sanyo is a very good phone as
well, sanyos are probably the best flip phone makers around.

Mooch, the phone hasn't been released yet. In saying that though, Sanyo has
had an excellent reputation regarding their phones that they have released,
in durability, sensitivity and coverage in fringe areas ...

With regards to your problem you mentioned about accidentally calling
people, how are you doing that? Is it the way you are carrying your phone?
Maybe changing the way you hold your phone, i.e.: using a belt clip or
holder, might be a way to stop that.

I have used the 5400 and found almost no errors in the phone. The speaker
is amazing compared to other flip phones.

I've worn the swivel cases before. I've had an incident where as I sat
down (this was with the old Nokia 5165 IIRC,) the pressure? pushed
down on the release mechanism, and the next thing I knew, my phone was
gone. It's for that reason, I've sworn off the swivel clips.

Right.
Most people learn quickly to lock their keypads.
Merely disabling speed dial still leaves them vulnerable to accidental =
re-dial.
That's my main reason for preferring flip phones.

Will the same sync cables fit the 5400 etc, as fits the 4900, and will
it tether to a laptop like the 4900, 5300 etc. I use a 4900 becasue
of the speaker phone, but like most of you , would prefer a clam
shell/flip etc, its just smaller, etc. ARe there any features missing
form the 5400 that are on the 5300, other than the useless camera?

I thought the #9 key had to be assigned to call 911through an option
in the software of the 4900. IIRC. I couldn't find confirmation of
that in the *Sanyo* online User's Guide for the 4900.

So what phone do you use now? How does it compare to the 4900? Can
*any* flip phone compare to the 4900?

Woops. Now that I re-read your post...I tried out the 8100 for size. I
thoght it was too small for my hand. And no speakerphone. I'm waiting
for the 5400.

Now I use the 8100. It is a good phone, almost as good as the 4900.

If you currently use a PDA and hate carrying both a PDA and a phone
(and occasionally the number from the PDA into the phone), or you
would like to start carrying a PDA to get organized, consider the
Samsung SPH-i500. I love mine.

The phone is not for everyone. It's expensive. It doesn't have a
speakerphone or external caller ID display. But it's very small
compared to all other combined PDA/phones out there. It is more of a
phone/PDA (focus on phone) than a PDA/phone (like the Treo line). And
of course it's a flip phone.

It runs the Palm OS, which IMHO is the best PDA OS out there for now,
but it's not a real OS (it occasionally locks up like Win3.x/95). Some
day I'll have a Linux PDA phone, but not for awhile.

If you have no need to spend the extra $$ for a combined PDA/phone,
ignore this post!
