Not really. The last time my AA expired they just started billing me
by the minute. The next bill I got was for $400+ dollars.
When I called to ask why, CS told me because my contract with them had
expired, and I was getting billed the FULL per minute Rate.
(this was with 2 phones).
Of course no one had ever called me. I HAD to call CS to get a retention
plan. And ended up having to pay the whole $400+ bill.

That has never happened with yours truly. In addition Michael, I don't
remember seeing any other posts with similar problems listed.
I suspect that something screwy happened to the coding on your account.
