I used to be able to directly directly to someone's voicemail with an
older cell provider. Is there a way to do this on SprintPCS?

(you would do something like *12 then dial the person's # and
their voicemail would automatically pick up instead of the phone
    ringing . . . )

    ?????????????????????

Yes, dial a 11 in front of the number... Example... 11-555-555-5555

This only works for Sprint VM, not sure about others...

worked for a number in the same area code, but when I tried Sprint
users in Boston, NYC, and SF I got "Sorry, not a recognized mailbox
    ...."

Good point, Andrew, was going to mention that, too.

The 11 + SPCS # works for me in Texas, every area code I've tried -
    *from* 214 *to* 214 / 469 / 972 / 817 / 903 / 713 / 281 / 832 / 512 /
210, but not to any out-of-state area codes, as Andrew pointed out.

    May be a intrastate-only thing.......

One thing I've seen work in the few AC/Prefix combinations=20
I've tried, is to dial (Area Code)-(Prefix)-MAIL. Gets you=20
into the SPCS Voice Mail system, if it works, and then you=20
can choose to leave a message at someone's voicemail inbox.

More likely an intrasystem thing. It probably works like 11+number
makes the voicemail system check for a box by that number and connect
it. However, out-of-state is going to be a different switch and
voicemail system, and your voicemail system doesn't own the box and
won't be able to find it when it looks for it....

In the Akron,Ohio market that does indeed connect to the voicemail
system. But only to allow me to enter box # and password, not to leave
    a message.

I always dial 2 then the number on sprint to bypass ringing the persons
phone and get their voicebox directly.

    2 + (123) + 123-4567

    Have you tried this?

Neither 2 or 11 + 10 digit number work for me. Hmmm I thought Sprint
was unifoirm everywhere at least as functionality goes?

I think I've tried everything that has been suggested in this thread,
and I can't dial my own voicemail directly from a landline phone.

What I'd like to do is to find a way to forward all incoming calls
(maybe using *72) directly to voicemail without having to turn the
phone off. I like to use the phone's alarm to wake me up, but I don't
want to deal with the phone ringing while I'm asleep.

Anyone know how I could do this?

That is not a function that Sprint PCS markets as part of their
    service.

Have you tried to dial your own mailbox. Then when it says options hit
number 2 then follow the directions. I do this all the time.

    monkey.
