    SprintPCS Sucks!!!
    Guest
So the idiots at SprintPCS have decided to shackle the T608 owners
with a 3-MB vision cap for $15/month. Everyone can see this is
completely unreasonable. They have no such limits on phones with
picture phones and wireless web. Many of these customers get unlimited
vision for $10/month. In comparison, the t608 owners are being bent
    over and raped by SprintPCS.

Everyone can see this is not fair. What can be doen to make SprintPCS
do the right thing and offer unlimited Vision for $10/month to
    SonyEricsson T608 customers too?

This is like charging a Chevy owner twice as much for Gasoline as a
    Ford owner.

Why is SprintPCS always trying to rape it's customers like this?

Why does it have such a double standard when it comes to the Sony
Ericsson phone. Any idiot can get a data cable and use unlimited
vision service with all the other piece of **** phones SPCS sells.
Why can SprintPCS never act with integrity?

    I hope I'm not feeding a troll.

Okay, look. Sprint PCS has its little world. It's a bit of a vacuum. Put
simply, computers use more data than phones. It's hard for a phone to
use more than a few megabytes in a month, so Sprint gives those devices
unlimited usage for $10-$15 a month, knowing that "unlimited" is a draw,
and that they'll seldom have someone move more than a few megabytes.
Also, because of the terms of service and the fact that they don't sell
cables, (remember, we're in that vacuum right now) phones cannot be used
as data devices for laptops. PocketPC devices have fancy media players
and such, and can use more data than a standard phone, so they pay a
little more each month. Computers are voracious users, with large hard
drives, p2p apps, games, and a landline-centric view of bandwidth
consumption. Because "unlimited" could mean gigabytes of data, Sprint
offers the data card, and more or less meters (with some exceptions) its
use. Now, Sprint is offering a device that carves a new (for Sprint)
niche. It's a phone, but it's officially usable as a data device. I
suspect 3MB represents typical vision phone user monthly data
consumption, the idea being that the users that stick with the built-in
browser won't see a disadvantage in data plan pricing, but heavy users
and those that use the device for internet access will pay extra for
their disproportionally higher usage. I'd want to see that number reach
    5MB though.

Re: Vision Problem with SonyEricsson T608

I am feeding a troll, but here goes:

Put simply, they are selling this phone almost exclusively because of
increasing pressure to have a bluetooth phone for VOICE device
compatibility. They neither want, nor care about catering to, data users -
if it isn't abundantly clear from the 3MB vision plan limit. They are
artifically capping the vision use on this phone because that isn't the
taget market for this device at this time.

All of you people with data tunnel vision: get over it. 95% of cell revenue
still comes from voice, and the majority of the people who will buy a
bluetooth phone want it for the headset and automotive hands-free
capabilities. A small minority care about the unlimited data side. While a
nice feature for a bluetooth-enabled PDA, it really isn't that much of a
chore to carry a small data cable if the concern is a laptop, since the vast
majority of the time, using a laptop with a data-enabled phone is going to
    be something done while stationary.

Why do you think the phone number to order the T608 is 1-866-PCS-AUTO?

Think bluetooth-integrated cars - That's the 'killer app' for Bluetooth.

Why is that the right thing. They made a mistake once by offering that
deal, why do you expect them to offer it again? It has nothing to do with
being fair. There are plenty of people still on the $10/mo Vision plan.

    > This is like charging a Chevy owner twice as much for Gasoline as a

No it isn't and you know it. Now if they offered one BT phone with the
$10/mo Vision offer and not another BT phone, I could understand that.
Currently, they don't offer ANYBODY a $10/mo plan. The key word here is
    "offer".

Ok, I can see your point. No one here will debate the SprintPCS is
    clueless.

I thought everybody figured out the voice is just a special type of
data. If data folks built the network, then we wouldn't be talking
about this. This is the age-old "we're a telecom and data scares us."

I do take issue with them trying to charge more than everyone else for
less. They could at least charge $10/mo.

It doesn't scare T-mobile though, who gives customers with bluetooth
    phones unlimited data.

I wonder how they will respond to these competitve issues as just
about every t608 customer complains about the bald-faced double
standard, which is very different from market offerings.

How much does an average unlimited customer with a data card use in a
    month?

Look, 100% of what their network carries is data. Why do they care if
    someone uses "data" over bluetooth?

I'd be happy with an unlimited plan for $20 or $30 on top of my
current $75/mo bill. They should not be capping this service.

I don't think the need to necessarily offer it again. Competitors
offer it for free (T-mobile), so they should be competitive.

They should let people who have the $10/mo Vision plan already move it
    to their new T608s.

Yes, well, what I have heard so far (and maybe they will relent) is
that no customer will be able to move unlimited Vision service to
    their new T608.

Are they not getting bent over here?

I can't imagine anyone would not think SPCS was srcewing those
    customers over.

That's amusing, but they don't just have it in for me. There's
millions of customers that they are screwing over and thousands who
are being screwed on the bluetooth-vision issue.

It's nice to have Bluetooth for voice headsets and synchornization,
but they are being to narrow-minded. Their competition is not.

    > All of you people with data tunnel vision: get over it. 95% of cell revenue

100% of what they carry on their network is data. They need to join
the 21st century and stop thinking about voice as seperate from data.
They are trying to do this but going about it in the wrong way with
the lame wireless web and the WAP phones. Phones are not browsers.

They need to provide nice, unlimited IP connectivity for a reasonable
price. They have a $100/mo unlimited plan for data only. I should be
able to get a phone with voice service and unlimited data for $100/mo
too, since someone with a bluetooth phone can not use the same amount
of bandwidth as a data card customer over the course of the month.

Sure that's one number. Yes, they had planned a marketing campaign
targeted at those poeople, but I don't think they be any phones left
by the time they get around to marketing it.

No, it't not. It's one application. The killer app is intergrating all
things in close proximity that need to share data securely. This is
    still a ways away.

SprintPCS is not making it happen any faster with this lame rule.

No, but what SPCS does not want to do is for you to use it as your ISP. It
was never intended at this time to utilize Vision as an ISP. Maybe, when
they release 4G, when burst speed will be 3.2 Megs, but not now ... There is
only so much bandwidth to offer at this time.

Actually it's $80/mo, on their business page ... As to your last comment in
the above paragraph, it looks like you do want to replace your ISP with
Vision ... If you want to do that, with a pcmcia card, then go for it ...

Getting back to some other points made, SPCS did initially sell cables, and
then realized it was a mistake, as people would use it as an ISP. A few of
us use the cable to connect up with Vision, however it's on a very limited
basis to pull down email, and do some light surfing ... That's a whole lot
different than what you want to do.

One thing obviously here is that you are trolling ... Again, if you are so

They can't afford to offer you a plan for $20 or $30 / month for unlimitted
service. If that doesn't make you happy, you should go with the company
that can offer this to you (I am not sure anybody really can, T-Mobile is

T-Mobile offers it for either $19.99 or $29.99 / month [for data usage].

I addressed that one a second ago. You have far more capability to draw
data with the bluetooth phone than you do with a $10 Vision plan. Again,
they don't offer the plan anymore because many people [like yourself?]
abused the unlimitted Vision using a cable because they knew Sprint had no
    way to monitor it.

No, if you have a problem and you have the $10 Vision plan, stick with your
old phone. If you want the BT functionality, you need to maintain the
contract that goes with it ... and in this case, it is with a 3MB Vision
data cap. Take it or leave it.

You should try harder ... because I don't. BT is still a niche market,
although there are some vocal enthusiasts. If Sprint gives you the ability
to screw them (i.e. cost them more in data delivery than they charge you
for), are you saying you don't plan to do it?

You missed it ... that was a slam on your paranoia I assure you that
there are not millions of BT (or potential BT) customers out there ...
probably not in all providers combined. I doubt there is a single million
    amongst all the current providers.

You showed up around when he did .. a couple of months back. Oh ... good
luck finding his posts ... he goes under 40 different names ... because he
is a real troll (meaning that you are not a troll).

While I agreed with some of your points Jon, there is a huge gaping flaw
in your logic in the statement above. If it's such a minor chore, and
so few people are interested in data tunneling over vision as you say,
then why go through such great lengths to cap it?

My theory is this. Sprint knows it has a very limited supply of these
phones. It had promised DaimlerChrysler that some of these phones would
be available as a promotion to their new car buyers. When SonyEricssion
pulled the plug on the T608, Sprint knew it was gonna be in a jam
because a LOT of gagdet freaks were going to clamor for this
bluetooth-data capable phone and there WOULD be great demand for the
data capability, leaving little or no handsets left to meet its
obligations to DaimlerChrysler. As such, Sprint HAD to cap the data
    feature to meet its obligations.

Maybe if/when another bluetooth phone comes out on Sprint, this cap will
    be removed. Who knows?

No, actually, it isn't. Voice is VOICE... it can be companded into an
8kbps EVRC vocoder and come out reasonably well at the other end. 1xRTT
data on the other hand, can burst up to 144kbps... the equivalent of
*18* voice channels. Even if you base calculations on the older, better
sounding 13k QCELP vocoder, data on 1XRTT still dwarfs voice traffic by
    a factor of 11.

So unless you're using the old Wireless Web to connect (which ran at
good old 14.4kbps), you can't really argue that voice and data traffic
are all the same. Data puts a HUGE overhead on the network, and until
the 1xEVDV upgrade happens, I can't blame Sprint for trying to limit the
    data usage a bit.

If data folks built the network, then we wouldn't be talking
    > about this. This is the age-old "we're a telecom and data scares us."

If data folks built the network, then there wouldn't be voice traffic...
which is STILL the primary source of revenue for Sprint. I bet you'd
get very pissed if you tried to make a call on your cell phone and got
"network busy" because data users are tying up the channel.

Yes, they do... if you don't mind a slower data rate, a well-documented
lack of reliability, and it's even free if all you want to do is surf
from port 80 and check your e-mail from port 25. However, I'm sure
you'll agree that most of the users who are truly interested in data
won't limit their activities to ports 80 and 25... even someone who
wants to do online banking from the road will find that they're SOL
because they can't use Secure Socket Layer unless they pay up to T-Mo
    for the privilege.

What? Seriously? Are you sure? I blows my mind that they would open port
80 and 25 but close 443. Seems nuts! Actually, seems like an opportunity
to open a service to cater to those people... An https over port 80 proxy.

This is exactly what I use vision for. light e-mail and browsing on my
laptop on a VERY limited basis.

3mb is not nearly enough even for the lightest mail and browsing.

If they said 3mb a day that MIGHT be ok but their are times where I probably
move more than that in 3 or 4 hours (I only log in at night after 9 or 10
    pm.)

Then again I really do not know how mych mb I transfer. it might only be a
    meg or 2 per session.

I will have to work on finding that out.

    Incorrect analogy.

free gas is free gas. if they offer you 10gallons of gas a day or something
what do they care WHAT you are putting that gas in. they are not giving you
    any more or less.

If I am using xbandwidth a month now why do you think that this will change
    when I change phones ?

if they are ok with my usage now why would they NOT be ok with the same
    usage on a different phone.

so NO your analogy is NOT correct.

Yea, that's like yours truly, only not as often, maybe once every couple of
weeks or so and two hours max, more like 1-2 hours. Now, in staying that,
think about even my limited usage, and then all the other users out there in
my area. If one in 100 did what I did, it would snatch up so much bandwidth,
that the towers would be maxed out ...
