We should all know by now how 2 years in a row JD Power and COnsumer
Reports rated SprintPCS worst of the major carriers for Customer Service.
A user survey by "The Yankee Group" also rated SprintPCS worst.

Re: It's Unanimous
I've been with sprint pcs for over 3 years. The first week was a typical
nightmare that has been repeated in here over and over; but after that it
has been smooth sailing for me and I am very satisfied. I have automatic
credit card payment and have rarely had the need to call customer service;
but when I have, it has been very business like with minimal pain. For me,
Sprint offers the best value.
Just be glad that we have choices. No one is putting a gun to your head to
stay with Sprint. Can you imagine how bad it would be if cellular carriers
had local monopolies like cable and land line phone compaines?

It was bad enough back in the '80s when we had exactly two carriers in each
city, one affiliated with the telephone company (the B carrier) and one
affiliated with a radio company (the A carrier). All the B carriers across
the country acted a lot like one big cartel, and to a lesser extent the A
carriers did the same. There was not much price competition, nor much
innovation. Because of this industrywide lethargy, industry "experts" were
claiming that the market was almost saturated, and at least one very major
supplier of wireless equipment was told by the "experts" to exit the market.

Again, that is a really good question.... If you left SPCS why did you come
back, I'm sure you had the option to go to Verizon, Nextel, etc. why come
back to the "worst of the major carriers for Customer Service?"

Re: It's Unanimous
I'm concerned that if a new round of buyouts eventually leaves the US
with just two providers (such as Cingular and Verizon), we'll be back to
that situation again, and the improvements in features and pricing that
the 1900MHz PCS competitors brought to the industry beginning in 1997
will be lost.

Even if it were to shake down at some point to only two providers (which
I highly doubt), it wouldn't be anywhere near the situation we had in
the 80's (and before). That old situation was government *mandated*
courtesy of Congress', uh, love for the people, which became known as
"Universal Service". If you remember, Socialist ideas, meaning
"regulated monopolies for The People", were quite in vogue even in the
U.S. for most of the last century, despite our protestations to be a
"free society".
When you remove the gun-point of government mandates, *temporary*
monopolies may indeed sometimes arise, but there are always the hungrier
and leaner companies nipping at their heels, and when the temporary
monopoly becomes complacent, it's history.
Unfortunately "temporary" is a rather subjective thing, and some people
can't think past a couple of years. Those people have a tendency to
want to call on the gubmint to "fix it", and there we go again. I worry
about *those* people (and their congresscritters), not market-created
ephemeral monopolies.
I'm cautiously optimistic, though, that we may have learned our lesson
in the last century.

Re: It's Unanimous
Well, I can speak for myself, because I'm continuing to go with Sprint in spite of my
latest
problems with them -- I can't transfer my cell # (at least not yet) and I have mistakenly
made it my primary business contact #.
I'm working on a way to wean myself off of it, believe me.
