When I tried to check email or edit my contacts list, it
would ask for my user name and password. Then it would
give me an "Application Error, Please re-login again"
    message.

Specifically - half the time I could log in all right, the
other half would ask for my user name and password then give
me the application error. When I could log in all right, half
the time I could send email, the other half it would ask for
user name after I clicked Send and then give me the error and
dump the entire email. Same thing with my contacts list.
Very inconsistant, but now all the time.

Its been going on for four weeks now in spite of numerous
calls to CS and three trouble tickets opened with promises
of a Vision tech to call me back.

They created a new Sprint email address, forced the password
into the mail servers, set my email acount to never expire,
did several other things, but nothing has resolved the problem.
Even had them give me a new phone after I duplicated it for a
store manager that said many of his people have Sanyo 4900s
and never have this problem. BTW they gave me a brand new
Sanyo 8100 ! ! ! I had been calling everyday to see if the
    8100 was in the refurb warehouse and finally it was today;
but when I got to the Sprint store, there were no more - so
manager gave me a new one from store stock. Unlike the one
I played with one year ago, this one has less dropping of
calls in my weak signal area. Its even better than my 4900.

Any suggestions what to try next? What more information would
any of you guys need to know?

Nevermind........Just got off the phone and FINALLY got a str8
answer from a helpful Vision tech. This is a known issue that
is related to the SMS upgrade that is currently up in some
markets and will rollout in all markets midnight Feb 2nd.

He admitted that he could open a ticket, but it wouldn't be acted
on as 1) PCS email is a free thing and there shouldn't be any
expectation for useability and 2) it will be resovled then SMS gets
    going.

Well...at least I got a new phone for all my frustration.

P.S. Ask the Vision tech to reset your password and don't change
it with the web password tool afterwards. Seems to work.

SprintPCS software: The gang that can't shoot straight.

SprintPCS came in high in FCC complaints about number portability too:

    http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmp...=/cmp/20040130
    /tc_cmp/17501987&sid=95573432

"In releasing the consumer complaint numbers for wireless number
portability, the FCC said it had received 4,734 complaints on the issue,
with 2,297 of them coming from AT&T Wireless customers. Sprint PCS,
which has a much smaller consumer base, was next with 1,119 complaints,
followed by Verizon Wireless, with 739 complaints; Cingular Wireless,
    699; T-Mobile, 625; Nextel, 332; Qwest, 195; and Alltel, 119."

I have to disagree with #1, and pretty strongly. Yes, it's=20
a service we launched as a freebie add-on for Wireless Web=20
customers. Still the same one. It's not sophisticated, or=20
even all that powerful, although it actually does seem able=20
    to handle this many users.

However, any company that advertises a service (and we *do*=20
advertise email, right in the descriptions of the Vision=20
service packs), and then tries to tell me, "Hey, it's free,=20
don't be surprised if it doesn't work" would get some=20
    rather harsh words in response.

It's utterly stupid to offer/sell a service, and then try=20
to tell the customer they shouldn't have any expectations=20
of service. And there's nothing I've seen that says Sprint=20
PCS (officially, anyway) takes this view of PCS Mail.

Please, before you go bringing up modem-style usage, look=20
up my responses in the past.

    Yes, Sprint advertises email features.

    No, it isn't free.

You have to pay $15 per month for the Vision option or pay
for non-Vision data usage to use this "free" service.

    Doesn't sound free to me.

I'm sure Sprint didn't intend to create a bait and switch scenario,
but due to oversight or whatever it could be portrayed as such if
someone wanted to get litigious. Perhaps someone needs to point
    out the liabilty here.

Not true. You could have setup and email name under the old Wireless=20
Web, and used just the SPCS "wired" web site. Or Outlook/OE, Eudora,=20
whatever email program on your PC. None of that costs.

The email service itself, really *is* free.

And how does this apply to Vision phones and how many Wireless Web
    phones are being sold nowadays?

    Again....Doesn't sound free to me.

Yo, stupid- you should have kept quoting:

"The FCC said the existence of a complaint isn't necessarily an indication
    of wrongdoing by a carrier."

Once again, not providing all of the facts, in an attempt to sound
    intelligent.

SPCS has been offering this free email service for quite a while, and one
can access it without accessing through the phone, via computer, via your
manage page, pop.sprintpcs.com or imap.sprintpcs.com If you find you have a
lot of incoming or outgoing email and want to access your email account via
the 3G phones these days, you will need to pay for the on line charges,
either per KB or per month via Vision.

I don't understand why you keep harping on this. Just where does SPCS
advertise free email access through your phone anyway? They fully explain
how charges are handled in their FAQ.

If you don't want to pay for Vision or whatever KB charges that might occur,
then don't access the net from your phone to access your email.

Rob has explained this many times and so has CS - its a free service.

On the other hand, if you believe its not a free service, the all issues
with the email should be supported.

Yes, they have said it's free through a computer ... just what don't you
    understand about that?

What other issues are you talking about?

You keep tossing extra conditions in. PCS Mail is provided=20
free of charge. It is provided, AND free, even if you=20
never use the web functions of your phone. That's free.

You're arguing a beach isn't free because the bridge you=20
