You can call *2, but as someone has mentioned how do you know an eBay
seller is telling you the correct ESN ?

That's when you get the seller to send you a digital photo of the ESN
sticker in question, and get him/her to specify that this IS the ESN of
the phone you will be getting as a condition of the sale.

Still not 100% foolproof (after all, the seller could have two identical
model phones, one clean and one not, and s/he's giving you the ESN of
the clean one with the intent to send you the blacklisted one), but it
will cut down on fraud a bit further.

Also, as with any eBay transaction, feedback is a good thing to check,
and check CAREFULLY. If someone has 100+ feedback from a large variety
of people over a wide period of time with few or no negatives, then
there's a very good chance you won't get screwed. If someone has zero
feedback and is selling something, be wary and if you must buy, use a
credit card so it can be disputed later.

And if someone has a ton of feedback but only from a very short period
of time (say just a month or two) or from a lot of the same people, then
    be VERY wary.
