A friends phone is acting up intermittently. For no apparent reason it just
shuts down. As far as she can remember it only happens when being powered
by the battery.
She doesn't use the phone while attached to a charger often, but she cannot
remember it ever shutting down except when using the battery alone. When
the phone does shut down the battery level indicator has always shown at
least half full.
She took it a Sprintpcs service center. They told her the phone had either
been wet or subjected to high humidity and that voided the warranty. They
showed her a little dot on the case when the battery is removed. They told
her if the dot was pink/purple and not gold colored moisture was the
problem.
If it never fails when it's on a charger I'm highly suspicious of the
battery or the connection between the battery and the phone itself. I hate
to suggest buying a new battery to test my suspicion if that really is not
the problem. Any new phone may not use the same battery.
Now, she lives in Florida where the humidity is very high this time of year.
She cannot remember ever getting the phone wet.
As anyone else run into this problem with Sprint? Any suggestions for
resolution?
She had the phone checked in North Carolina and will have checked locally
here in Florida when she returns.
She still has here old LG phone that she used before buying the Samsung.
Should she be able to revert back to the old LG if the Samsung turns out to
be broken?
Thanks......

Yeah, we're kind of stuck on that one. If we replace that phone, then we're
eating the cost of a new one, because Samsung will reject it, saying it's
not warranty-covered. If that indicator gets wet, the phone's warranty
voids out. There's some pretty tiny electronic connections inside the phone
that, I'm told, are mighty susceptible to corrosion failure if they get wet
for even a short time. Hence that indicator strip.
If it's really indicating exposure to moisture, then I'm sorry, but you're
going to have to obtain another phone outside warranty, unless you have
Equipment Replacement Plan in effect. (Note: you may succeed in getting it
added even now, since the phone works on occasion, but LockLine may, from
what I'm told, deny the claim if the store reps havenoted the moisture
damage already).

It might indeed be the battery. But that moisture indicator voids even a
warranty on the battery. I suppose you could try purchasing another
battery.

Good idea. A second opinion in *any* situation is never a bad idea.

Thanks to both of you for the knowing replies.
I'm going to play with phone when she gets back and see if I can become a
little more sure in my mind if it's just the battery causing problems. I
think I can try a little "gentle shock" testing with just the battery power
being supplied. If it fails I'll try the same thing without the battery and
the phone connected to an alternative power source.
If it my "scientific" testing points to the battery, we'll gamble, buy a
battery and see what happens.
If all that doesn't pan out for the good, I guess reverting to her old phone
in the near term and see what kind of offers Sprintpcs will come up with
when her contract expires in about six months.
Thanks again.....

If the phone works, then it's eligible for ERP, liar. If there's proof it's
already in need of a claim, the Lockline will refuse.

You ought to read posts more carefully before jumping off the deep end and
