I know this is ancient history, but my father has this phone and he
would like to use it as modem when he is on vacation. The directions
are somewhat complex. The laptop is an xp

Question #1 Do I use hyperterminal or network connections?

#2 Is there a successfull login script that people have used?
Is there an init string? I have searched the forums without luck.

I'm not familiar with the QCP-2760 but it doesn't appear to
be a Vision capable phone. In that case, get directions for
    data use here:

    http://navasgrp.home.att.net/tech/sch-8500/

The example is for a Samsung 8500, but the instructions
    are quite universal.

It's not - it's an old cdmaOne-compatible handset that hasn't been on the
market since sometime in 2000. It doesn't speak cdma2000 and doesn't do 1xRTT
data and therefore can't do Vision.

You can use hyperterminal to use the phone as a Hayes compatible modem.
You can also use Dial Up Networking as you would a normal modem
    calling a normal ISP.

"Network connections?" What kind? There are dozens that you could
choose from. "Should I use a network connection?" is about as vague as
    asking "Can I drink something?"

    > #2 Is there a successfull login script that people have used?

For the QCP-2760, you will want to have the account set up for wireless
web access (I think it's $10 extra per month, I'm not sure). Note, this
is NOT a PCS Vision pack. The 2760 is not a vision capable phone, and
so a Vision pack will do nothing for you, so make sure the CS rep who
adds this to your account has not confused Wiress Web with PCS Vision.

For hyperterminal, the phone is designed to act just a like a modem that
is compatible with the Hayes command set.

For an ISP, the login script you will want to use is #2192 for the
number to dial, and the username and password can be blank (sometimes
you can also use "web" as both username and password).

Just a followup to my previous post about using the QCP-2760:

    1. Expect the throughput to be SLOW. Wireless web runs at the snail's
    pace of 14.4kbps, max.

    2. If you add the wireless web plan to your account, then using your
phone for data will use up airtime minutes just as if you were making a
normal call. Keep this in mind during peak airtime periods, though you
should be just fine during night and weekend periods assuming your plan
    has unlimited nights and weekends.

If you do NOT add the wireless web plan, then data calls will cost you
    $.39 per minute.

Thank you very much-- I was able to set up the connection.
