New Phones

Does Sprint offer ANY phones that are not for Vision? I don't have a
Vision plan and don't want to start one. I would like to start
shopping for a new phone and every place I've been (mostly kiosks)
that's all they seem to have. Ditto on the website. Are there other
venues that have a larger and more relevant slection for me?

1) You can use a Vision phone without a Vision plan.

2) Sprint will only activate Sprint phones. In other words,
you can't purchase a phone from Verizon and expect to use
it on a Sprint plan.

I'm aware of that. AFAIK all carriers only activate phones specific
to them. I wa just wondering if there were any nonvision phones left
out there.

Look at the Nokia phones. they work great.

I currently see two non-Vision phones on the website: The Nokia 6016i,
and the Motorola V60v.

If by "all carriers" you mean all cdma carriers you are correct. Most cdma
carriers will not activate a phone from another provider, even if they
support the same model. Usually the main issue is that each provider
supplies details to the manufacture for a specific custom firmware as well
as a custom feature set. Now all gsm phones can switch between gsm
carriers, of simlar freq/band, if they have been unlocked, t-mobile will
do this for free after the 14day trial if asked.

Two of the four largest will, actually. (Verizon and Alltel.)

I have heard of people getting stores/techs to upload the specific
carrier's custom firmwares but it was always something that was possible
but not guaranteed to be allowed on the two networks you mentioned. If
things have changed and they openly allow this then that is good news.
