Sprint coverage question?

Two families from SoCal vacationed recently in Mammoth Lakes, Ca,
taking our Sprint cell phones so that we could keep in touch. To our
surprise Sprint had no coverage in that area!

Any other complainers out there? Will Sprint do anything about this
lack of service?

We were told that Verison did have coverage!

Chuck, for those instances where you get off the beaten track & no SPCS
coverage is available, I'd suggest you check out adding the F & C A option
to your account. If your account is in an SPCS corporate coverage area, the
cost is $5, will cover the phones on your account, and will allow you to
roam for up to 50% of the minutes used in a month ... for no extra charge,
save for the monthly option expense.

Sprint has never had native coverage in that part but the good news is
it's coming this year. The estimated on air date is Sept. 05.
Ubiquitel is the affiliate for that area. In the mean time off network
roaming is available.

Sorry to hear you were surprised - especially if this was upon arrival.
You can consult the coverage maps on Sprint's website before traveling
to minimize surprises.

And if you expected your Sprint phones to roam on Verizon there but they
didn't, it could be because your phone's roaming setting was set to
"Sprint only" instead of "automatic" (which allows roaming).

Glad to hear from Larry that Sprint is coming to Mammoth.

Last year when I was there the only carriers that I knew had native
coverage was Cingular and a TDMA carrier. The Cingular 1900 worked
good and so did AT&T TDMA roaming. Verizon signal was poor throughout
the mountain.

Have you seen the coverage map?? It shows the area of coverage and future
coverage in light and dark green that are completely indistinguishable!!! I
am actually interested in getting Virgin Mobile which uses the sprint
network. Their map of current coverage and future coverage is also
indistinguishable in shades of red. I have no idea from either one where
coverage is actually available.
