Since this phone does gsm in europe, could you then buy it and put a
cingular or t-mobile sim in to operate it?

Yeah, I know that, but what I am asking is if cingular's or t-mobiles sim
cards for intl calling will work in the phone. Basically, take the phone to
europe, put the cingular sim in that allows for european usage and use it,
very simple. Question is will sprint be a ***** about it.

It runs on European GSM frequencies and US CDMA frequencies only. IOW, 900/1800
GSM in Europe, 800 (850)/1900 CDMA in the USA. (No AMPS, btw.)
You conceivably put a T-Mobile SIM into it in Europe on one of their European
networks, but you couldn't run it on any network owned by T-Mobile USA.
