Wireless web / modem / fax on new phones? (ie: Sanyo RL-4920)

Hi folks - I have a old Sanyo SCP-4700 and the $5 monthly "wireless
web" option, so I can use my minutes for data/fax calls (and the phone
looks like a standard data/fax modem to the computer, connected to
COM1 on a serial cable).

With the $150 rebate they're offering, I'd like to upgrade my phone at
some point, but I don't want to lose the data/fax capability. Do the
new phones (ie: Sanyo RL-4920) show up as a USB modem that you can
send standard Hayes AT commands to (to dial, set fax mode, etc.)?

Thanks in advance for any advice out there! (I'd hate to get a new
phone and then find out I've lost my data/fax capabiltiy in favor of
the per-MB PCS Vision service!!!)

I'm not sure they'll let you keep Wireless Web with then new phone.

all I have found for my RL 4920 is 3rd party programs for usb driver and preograms to use the phone as a modem.
company if future dial.
you can buy software and usb cable at radio shack.
combination should be arund $70-80.
uses Oulook for address book/calendar mangement.,

Some current Vision phones will still allow the older 2G data/fax WW
service you are talking about. HOWEVER, you will likely be charged
$0.39/min to use it, REGARDLESS of whether you have the old WW
$5/mo feature on your account or not.

If the primary aim of such usage is to get onto the Internet, then
actually going with the newer Vision service is much better: for
$10/mo you get *unlimited* Internet access without burning up
airtime minutes and at much faster data speeds (60-100kbs vs
14.4kbs). Casual fax usage will be at $0.39/min (provide you have
a phone that actually can do it).

However if you plan to continue heavy usage of faxing or dialing up
a 3rd party ISP or analog modem, then you are better off sticking with
your old phone and the $5/mo WW.
