Got an e-mail from Sprint offering 10% off my bill for 1 year, Just
have to sign a 2 year contract.

Any catch?

Hmm. Never heard of that offer before but sounds good. Is it some
sort of corporate or business discount?

The two year contract. I would not sign a contract that long with any
provider.

If you have no plans to move (for example, I'm retired), then it's a
good deal. But I wonder if taking the 10% will disqualify me from
getting a $150 handset upgrade rebate.

I was told that it would not affect handset upgrades. However, you'll
still get the contract extension if you do go for the "rebate" (I think
the discount is instantaneous now). So if you took the 10% deal right
now, you'd have a contract till September of '07. But if in December you
take the $150 phone discount, your contract would be extended to
December of '07.

At least that's what I was *told*. I'd hate to think they'd add on
another two years to whatever end-date you already have. We'd have
people contracted to SPCS for life. <g>

But I do wonder what would happen if you had more than a year, but less
than two years left on your contract and you took the smaller phone
rebate (the one that only requires a one-year contract extension). Would
they leave your contract's end-date alone, or would they increase it?
And if they increased it, to when? Hmmm....

Well, yes: you have to extend your contract for two more years.

I would get these offers on a regular basis from Sprint, particularly
when my contract would come close to ending. It basically ensures that
you have an disincentive for leaving.

Yep. I just re-upped with DirecTV for two years, in return for a free
DVR and 6 months of free HBO & Showtime.

I was offered and accepted a 5% discount some years ago. I'm on a
4-line family plan with several add-ons (roaming, 7pm, Vision, etc), and
my 5% is just off the base family plan, not off all the add-ons,
options, & taxes.

I took the 10% a couple of years ago, I looked at as a break for some of the
dang taxs. There coustemer service can leave some thing to be desired some
times, but I havent found many places I have not had a decent singal.
