I asked this question before but the response I got wasn't exactly what
I was looking for, I'm hoping that someone may be able to answer.

I purchased a usb cable fom my above mentioned phone (Samsung SPH-A660)
and would like to download everything out of the phone so that when I
switch to a new phone (either a PM-8200 or 8300) I will not have to
redownload all of my images, ringtones, and possibly games. DataPilot
and future dial both support this phone but only the phonebook and
calanadar. Is there any program out there that can pull other data or
is it just not possible with this phone. I would understand that
because this phone really is a piece of crap when it comes to
    downloading.

The whole cellular system is crap for downloading. It's ok for email and
some little pictures but it's S-L-O-W compared to 802.11x or broadband
directly connected. It can't help it. It was never designed to do these
    things.

He's not talking about the system, he's talking about the fact that he can
only find software that downloads certain pieces of information from the
phone. The cellular network isn't involved. He's using a USB cable.

In a way I was talking about the phone itself but not the network.
Basically with many phones if you browse to an image, you have the
option of saving that image locally to the phone. Not with this phone,
nor with data files. everything must use a WAP push I belive basically
it has to be sent to the phone. It's also very slow to start up, almost
a full mintute (god forbid the phone be off and I need to call 911).
Games on the phone take a while to load, and ringtones sound like CRAP!
No external speaker so it uses the regualar speaker which of course is
not really designed to play real tones at loud volumes.

Outside of the commercial products listed above, along with with BitPim
(bitpim.org) which is still in development, I don't believe there are any
other products available. In saying that, SPCS does have some software to
pull out all your data (not sure about ringers, pictures or screensavers) to
transfer to a new phone. I'd suggest you take a few minutes by going down to
your local SPCS store and speak with one of the techs there, to see if their
software can transfer everything to a new phone. If they can, then that's
great and you can have it done right there, when getting your new phone
    model.

If they can't, then you are SOL.

I recently bought one of these Samsung A660 phones at Staples 100% rebate,
Stimobile prepaid, uses SprintPCS network. It's my first cell phone. I
later bought the data cable online and found there was little I could do
with it. My guess is that given the complaints about sound and ringer
quality Sprint dumped these to Stimobile. As a first cell phone I like it
but want to improve its functionality. These are priced to hack so hoping
applications will show up shortly. Phone web access costs like 18 cents a
day but if one connects the data cable while connected the web disconnects.
The SprintPCS coverage fails a few miles distant southwest and east so I'm
not going to be using it at home though coverage may improve when the new
nearby interstate is completed, Columbus, GA to Chattanooga. I'm sure an
earlier poster asking what the tri-state area is know's it isn't GA/TN/SC.
