I am a sprintpcs customer. I often see reference to EVDO. I'm guessing it's
like broadband hoping it can replace my current adiction to Comcast internet
service. Is this a correct assumption? I found nothing on the Sprint website
that includes EVDO or any such mention.
    Thank You,
    Daniel Cairns

It's the new Power Vision and the lower end of broadband speed. I doubt that
you would want to replace your Comcast connection, as you would have to buy
a PCMCIA card, and spend a minimum of $80/mo.

If you want to research it more, look for the Power Vision info on SPCS's
site. You can also learn a bit more about EV-DO from www.cdg.org .

Any idea whether there's usb 'card' that will work with Power Vision?
I'm beyond the reach of cable & dsl; don't want to use Directv for
obvious reasons. I think I'm around 5 or 6 miles from the nearest sprint
tower & might be able to hit it with a small dish reflector mounted up
on the roof. This technique works for wifi using usb dongles & extension
cables, so I'm hoping for the same technique to hit the sprint tower.

    Thanks,

    Charlie

There is either accessing Power Vision via the phone, or using a pcmcia card
to plug into either a laptop or a desktop. USB card for connecting to Power
Vision? No, I don't believe there is? You want to connect another antenna
via cables and a reflector dish to get internet? I don't believe that will
work, but then again, I'm not an electrical engineer.

Maybe someone else might pipe in on what you want to do, but keep in mind
that even if it is possible, that you will still need to pay at least
$80/mo. and that's if you qualify as a business.

What are you paying for your comcast service now?

I'm not the 'comcast guy'; I can't get any conventional wired broadband.
In any case, I just rechecked the sprint coverage map & it turns out
that I can only get pcs here, anyway. Obviously, not worth the trouble.

Looks like I've got to live with dialup or pay the outrageous install
costs of satellite & live with only somewhat better performance than my
    dialup.

    Thanks for the help,

    Charlie

Why not continue with the WiFi solution? Was it a local commercial
provider that has shut down? If so, and as long as you still have the
equipment in place, maybe you can arrange to have a friend with
    broadband share their (DSL/cable) connection.
