Left Verizon for Sprint

I hope I did not make a mistake. Verizon didn't work well in my house. I
would have to go out in the back yard and I could move the phone (LG vx3100)
3 feet and go from 1 bar to 4 in an instant.
I am getting pretty much the same from my Sprint phone (Sanyo SCP 3100).
What would be the best phone for reception that is hearing aid compatible?
The sound quality of this phone is good with the T-coil. I just wish it
wouldn't drop service in our basement. Upstairs is one bar maybe two.
I guess I should have asked before I signed but I still have 10 days to back
out.

Go back to Sprint and get a Motorola. The LG VX3100 has horrible reception.
Motorola is much better.

I can't comment on Motorola phones, but OP had the LG on
Verizon. With SPCS he's got the _Sanyo_ 3100. Reception should be
about as good as it gets with this phone, I'd say.

I have seen people dis the Samsung phones for reception, but in my experience,
they do just as well as any of the Sanyo phones that I have owned (7400, 6100,
6200 and the 200 ... the latter shows a large number of bars but has no better
reception than the others).

I am hoping you are right. I just want a phone that I can use with my
hearing aid. The Sanyo is very easy to use in this aspect and sounds good
to my tin ear. My wife took hers back and is going to try one of the LG's,
she didn't like the Motorola at all.
I think we are stuck with bad reception which is weird. The tower is about
4000 feet from our house but there are a lot of trees between here and
there. When I get east of the tower and in line of sight of the tower this
thing hits the limit.

I have heard similar reports about Samsung phones, but have
heard uniformly bad ones about LG phones, which is what the OP was
using on Verizon.

Funny ... I have heard pretty good reports about LG phones on verizon,
especially the venerable 4400.

That's good. I have been using a variety of Sanyo phones and
been greatly satisfied for more than five years.

There are two criticisms with Sanyo's concerning sound, and I
can say that both are true in my experience.

The older ones (4700 - 4900 series) had a sonic "sweet spot".
In other words, you had to position the phone carefully on your ear or
the sound was muffled completely. Newer models like the 3100 and my
8300 seem to have largely corrected that.

The other problem is one that persists, but is subtle. In an
effort to produce (I suppose) a rich, deep sound, Sanyo seems to tweak
it's phones slightly toward "boominess". This can cause some sounds to
be poorly articulated or fuzzy, but I admit I have no other phones at
the moment to compare it to.

This latter characteristic may actually serve your advantage,
or at least not be disadvantage, when the phone is used in
conjunction with your hearing aid.

Anyway, I can certainly vouch for Sanyo phones' ability to
find and hold a signal, which is of primary importance to me.

Hmm ... I can't say that I have noted this and I have used the 8100, 8200,
7400 and the 200. I currently have the last three activated on my account
right now. I have not noted any "boominess". Are you sure that you haven't
simply grown older and suffered a bit of high frequency loss to your hearing?

The VX4400 was great, but that was a long time ago. Most of the newer LG's
are horrible.

You cannot ever expect to get signal in the basement. Remember that the
basement is below ground and the signal does not penetrate the ground very
well. If you really want signal in the basement, you will need to install a
cellular repeater in your home. (Google for cellular repeater). Be happy
that you phone works when you are not in the basement.

My neighbor's house is 80 feet away and he says his phone works fine,
upstairs and downstairs.

I can draw one bar on signal strength off and on but cannot count on it to
sustain a phone call.

This Sunday was a first. My wife looked at her phone and it was roaming. I
looked at mine and it
was going from digital to analog roaming then after a while, back on the
network. This was upstairs.

Overall, the service isn't much worse than what we had with Verizon, we were
hoping for better. The
plan is much better suited for her use and she got a substantial discount
through her employer. In two
years we can decide if we made a good move or not.

Thanks for letting me in on the cellular repeater. I will look into it.
