I have to go over each and every sprint bill to look for bogus charges! I
have found many and spent much time on the phone getting charges removed.
It makes you wonder how many people just pay the bill and are getting ripped
off by sprint!

Interesting. I've always examined my bill, and I've never seen a single
charge for a bogus call.

In more than seven years with the company I've never seen an
incorrect charge.
The one time I thought that my plan was incorrectly listed I
called them, only to find that I was reading it wrong.
What inaccuracies have you found?

Also another time my daughter got charged for text messages ( she did not
have that service) from some company that Sprint said was a "third party"
and I had to call them. That was almost $20.00. This bill there was $36.00
new phone activation charge that I was told nothing about at the Sprint
Kiosk when I replaced my sons defective phone. I cannot believe that there
are not other people out there that have been overcharged. I watch my bill
close every month!

Usually the bogus charges I have found would appear 2 months after some
contact with customer service, either a store rep or telephone. After
having a store rep correct incorrect coding on the roaming option on a
F&FF plan (this was before roaming was included), I was told I'd get Ready
Link free for 2 months. I declined this but the charges started 2 months
later anyway. After calling customer service to fix this and stating "no
add-ons please", 2 months later billing started for a text messaging
package even though I wasn't informed that this was added, and to beat
all, my plan already included 100 free texts.
The charges are just low enough to fly under the radar when quickly
checking a bill, and after 2 months had passed, I'd dropped my guard a
little on looking through my bill. On a multi-phone F&FF plan, it's a
little difficult to page through all the phones and catch things like
that. I could have paid these charges for months if I hadn't been lucky
enough to catch them.

Well I know that I have had some issues with Sprint and there Billing.
I like there service much better than most but there Billing has some
issues.
For 7 months I had them charging me two different county's and two 911
charges because of it, I called in and told them about it and they
would credit me every month and telling me that they had put in a
ticket, after 6 months I starting making a big up roar because I had to
do it every month, finally I got it all corrected.
Also they are not the best when it comes to Family Plans, I have three
lines and it took them soo long (5 months) to get it all corrected, BTW
people in the store never know how to code things, the rep over the are
better. The reason I mention this is because the third line for the
longest time didn't have my night and weekends at 7 like the other two
lines and the second line didn't have text like the other two have and
the don't mention that much on the bill, they mention more of it
on-line but I didn't find this out till I was speaking to someone about
the bill. To top it off they will only back credit you for these issues
for two month if you haven't called about that issue, and my thing is
they found the error and there were probably times when I paid overage
for usage because the third line was not on the correct timing for
night.
Just my 2 cents.

between there and their.

Very true. I assume all carriers do it because there's no accountability
in hiding behind those lock-in contracts. You can certainly tell when
there's no incentive to compete, except for to hook that customer for the
first time.
It reminds me of another industry that needs billing reform. The
rent-a-car industry. As soon as you turn your back and get on a plane,
they're billing you for a tank of gas. Then you have to fax in a gas
receipt to correct their dishonesty.

In the last 6 months, I've had these errors on my bill:
1. charges for directory assistance that we didn't make; on several bills
2. over 150$ charges for roaming on one phone, even though I called several
times after adding roaming to make sure it was included on my 2-phone plan.
(you might not call this a billing error, but it was their mistake, and I
had to call billing to get it fixed, they only took off about $100 of the
charges, but they did give me a bonus of 60-min of anytime calls! for my
troubles).
3. charges for "above tier" calls, whatever that is.
4. over 600$ in roaming charges from mexico, while I was roaming in
Maine(on the same days).
5. there are a couple of other charges that I can't remember right now.
I've spent almost as much time on the phone with CS as I have on my regular
plan, and it sucks that I have to call and verify every transaction numerous
times before I have any faith in the changes.
They also try mightily to give me a free phone every time I call CS, and add
on vision. No thanks. I have enough problems with a simple plan. I can't
imagine the problems I would have with picture and data added.
I wish they would develop an online plan-change interface that would
eliminate the human factor that seems to screw up every small change I've
ever made to my service. At least that way I could have a printed copy of
what they promised me, with an agreed-to price, similar to the check-out
when you order stuff online.

Unless you have specifically called into tech support and had the text
message feature blocked on your daugther's phone, surprise, she does
have the ability to send/receive text messages. There are thousands of
3rd party content providers that offer almost as many products,
typically it is a monthly subscription to their product whether you
actually ever choose to download something or not. these are usually
easy enough to unsubscribe to by simply texting the word STOP, QUIT,
UNSUBSCRIBE to the short code that the messages come from. This is not
sprint, but actual 3rd parties, and are typically subscribed to either
by repsponding to a text message received or by going to the parties
website and putting in your cell number. Sprint just handles the
billing for these companies, for a portion of their fee.
The 36.00 charge sounds like an Upgrade fee, not an activation fee as
you stated there was an existing phone that was replaced. This is a
typical charge, however if you call to have the replacements shipped
out the fee is only 18.00.
As for watching your bill closely, that is a smart thing to do,
everyone should actaully read their bill every month. This helps make
sure that everything is as you want it, and that if mistakes are made,
they can be corrected quickly. Not reading your bill every month is
like not reading a service agreement when you sign up for something, if
you do not read it, you really cannot complain too much if you get into
something you did not expect.
I would suggest next time you are needing a phone replaced, whichever
method you use, to ask upfront if there are going to be any extra
charges for it, and if the rep says no, to get it put in writing, that
way you have some recourse if you wind up getting charged.
