Someone has been sending text messages to me and removing the sim from his cell phone afterward. Can the IMEI no of the phone be given to me by the network provider and can this IMEI number be used to know any other sim used on this phone? I need to know who is sending the text messages to me.

There is no way you're going to get that number from any reputable
carrier. You're receiving text messages from a phone, right? Block the
number.

I agree with Steven. You will not be able to receive the IMEI from the
carrier. However, you can report the number to the carrier and they
should be able to track anything they need. If they are just using the
same SIM over and over again, you should be able to block the texts
from that phone number. The phone number is associated with the SIM
card, not the phone itself.

The problem is that the guy tails me and my wife and send text messages to us that he is going to kill us. Blocking the number will not stop him for tailing us or putting a bullet through us, as he is threatening.
He sends each text with a different sim and uses each sim only to text us, so tracking each sim is useless.
Can the service provider actually get the IMEI number of the phone he is using? can the service provider also match the IMEI number to any other sim installed on the phone?
I can get a court order to make the service provider release the IMEI number, but 1st I need to know if they will have it.

Then you need to get law enforcement involved. They can get court
orders to force the carrier to give up the information, and they can
go after the guy.

Of course they can. The IMEI is like the Electronic Serial Number on a
CDMA phone. The phone registers with the cellular network using the
IMEI. They have it.

You need to talk to the police, regardless.

The whole story, similar to many posted, sounds fishy.
It's a GSM network in question not a CDMA network. Will the network provider have the IMEI number or any other number that will be unique to the phone?
The police are already involved, but I have to work with them to have this resolved. That's how we were able to know the guy uses the SIM only in texting to us and to no one else.
What we are trying to do is get anything that will reveal his true identity through the texts he is sending. Maybe if were have the IMEI number we will be able to search for other sim using thesame IMEI number on the GSM network and hence get the guys permanent phone number.

How does he have access to all these sims, how many are there?
Who are all these sims registered to? The carrier/s should be able to
identify the owners of the sims and the police can contact them to find
him.
sim sells for less than 2 dollars here. no need to register it with the carrier, u just buy the sim and recharge card in a street corner and you are connected to the network. Its prepaid, so no registration.
He has used 21 different sims in sending texts to me. We got a court order to track the first 11 sims, discovered they are used in sending text only to my family.
Now we have to try and identify the phone he is using and who has the phone.
