When I had my Treo 650 on CDMA, I used it as a wireless modem. I had
Sprint PCS Vision -- use the phone as a browser, get e-mail, etc.,
etc. -- and it worked as a wireless modem okay. Not speedy, but I only
used it that way rarely when I needed it.

I now have an EvDO Treo 755p, which is faster for all web activities,
but I have no idea how to use it as a modem. I don't need it nearly
enough to spend 40-50 dollars a month for unlimited data usage.

Any idea how to get that wireless modem functionality back with my new
phone? Either on my windows machine or Mac (which is preferable)?

Do a search for PDAnet software from June Fabrics

And if you ever get it working, please post your settings, etc.
here. It's good software, I've been told, but I cannot get it
running for my combination of 755p and Dell Vista laptop.

I have no issues using it with my HP Laptop running Windows XP using the
USB cable. The HP does not have Bluetooth.

Perhaps BT was the problem - I should walk before trying to run.

With PDAnet (and a cable), your laptop can go online anywhere
there's EVDO coverage, using your PowerVision unlimited
    subscription?

    Thanks!

So... are you all saying that I should still be able to log on using
    my
755p as a modem using my existing service? Which login and password do
    I
use -- the one I use for VersaMail? Or...?

(There were once very specific instructions for using "Wireless Modem"
on my 650. That software seems to no longer be supported, however.)

    Thx!

I believe it will work anywhere there is Vision access. Doesn't need to
    be PowerVision.

Check out the PDAnet software. You don't enter any user/password. It
    uses your Vision/PowerVision connection.

Excellent -- it works! And quite fast, too. Thanks! I wish there was
    an OSX version, but
using VMware Fusion to run it works pretty well! So my obvious
    question is, is using
the official Sprint 40-50 dollar-per-month data service really that
    much better or
    faster to justify the cost?
