    NO... DUH right back!!

Nobody cares about PTT anymore. (yes I know it's a vast generalization. but
not for 3/4 of a million people last quarter alone!) All the old Nextel
guys here on the job went VZW (joined the rest of us) and just programmed
the one button dials for who they wanted. Problem solved. No chirping any
more, but hand sets at half the price, too. Never used broadcast anyway.

Pretty much, I work at a couple locations that did just that. Most
everyone hated the beep---beep---beep Captain Commando walkie talkies.

The reason business wants iDen was because the phones could be put in
restricted walkie ONLY modes that wouldn't dial outside numbers, using the
boss's phones to talk to the girlfriends instead of working.

The walkie also allows employees to call "Mike", which comes out all the
speakers everywhere like a PA. Other employees hearing this and knowing
Mike is taking a crap in the portable LOO, would answer the call.
    SELLphones don't provide either service.

SELLphones are also "girly" phones. iDen phones, with CONSTRUCTION in
mind, survive being stuffed into a jeans pocket crawling under a house to
fix plumbing. Motorola made them to lay on. If you lay on a girly phone
from Verizon, it simply disintegrates. Look for the CONSTRUCTION PHONE on
    Verizon's webpage. See any?

Nextel isn't about phones for company vice presidents. Nextel's phones are
about plumbers and electricians and carpenters and roofers and drywall guys
    covered in gook.

Different people in a different market.....altogether.
If the Nextel guys fled Nextel, they went to Motorola trunk radios you can
drive the dozer over....not girly phones from Verizon and Sprint.

Actually a lot (most?) of the businesses that used Nextel _did_ care
about broadcast mode, but the other PTT services also have broadcast
mode. Being able to broadcast out to your entire field staff to find out
who was free to respond to an urgent call is very useful for many
    businesses.

Broadcast mode was the only real unique aspect of Nextel, as using
walkie-talkie mode was painful even with the shorter delay of iDEN.

Another aspect of the real Nextel users is logging onto OTHER user's
    networks....

Case in point, I have a friend who owns an electrical service business on
Nextel. He wouldn't think of using anything else, even though Nextel gives
him poor coverage in many areas near here. The reason is he can simply
click up another network and be talking, instantly, to his SUPPLIERS
warehouse people, even from across town, to check on the availability,
instantly, even from some just awful locations like the attic of a
building, ordering on the spot. Oh, sure, he could call them on the phone,
but that gets him the office bureaucrats, not George in warehouse 3 who
knows where that E372908DD5 Umptisquat is supposed to be. He doesn't have
to wait for some secretary to find George. George answers his call
    directly on 28372 group number.

Many subcontractors have their group number on their trucks...right under
their phone number! Most subcontractors in the construction business won't
get a contract UNLESS they HAVE a Nextel Group number to submit with their
    bids!

Like I said, this ISN'T about suits and bureaucrats. It's about comms for
the working class, Nextel's bread and butter customers....

Another thing Verizon doesn't match is a customers call TO that
electrician's Nextel phone. Verizon wants airtime......Nextel INCOMING
calls are always FREE.....and that matters to those businesses, too.

Which SELLphone Verizon sells would you have him carry?

    Look closely.....it needs to be:

Indestructable during forklift, box carrying, cargo movements, crawling
    under things.

Cannot dial out, no calling outside the company

INCOMING calls must all be INCLUDED at no airtime charges to the
    company.

Only business calls from contractors can connect to it, not George's
harem of bar girls, bookies, other drunks, sports buffs.

Which phone should we sell him that will do what his Nextel phone does
    quite well right now?

    Doesn't wash, does it?

I never realized Nextel walkie-talkies were free. Because I know with
your constant use of "Sellphone" you really object to someone paying for
the value they get from a communications provider so I know you could
never be an advocate of any communications system that isn't free.

Business doesn't care. Just make it work EXACTLY like Nextel, which you
    can't.

Nextel isn't free. INCOMING PHONE CALLS are "free", not charged against
customer airtime, EVER. Walkie Talkie mode has no airtime charges either.
So the ONLY airtime payment is for OUTGOING calls.

Back at the construction site, those phones have absolute MINIMUM airtime,
but are being used constantly all month. Phone calls INCOMING and walkie
    mode.

This isn't about me. It's about WHY BUSINESS LIKES NEXTEL. So, shove your
    personal attacks up your ass.

At my wife's company they called it PTA (Push to Annoy). Still, it did
have it's benefits being able to contact an entire field staff without
calling every person individually, at least until the staff started
turning off their phones to stop being interrupted. The biggest problem
with Nextel was that the coverage was so limited. Her staff goes well
outside the metro area, and they have to carry another phone, usually
Verizon, in order to have coverage.

Nope, not at all. I'm saying the reason Joe's Storm Door and Electric,
Inc., buys Nextel is because Verizon DOESN'T OFFER IT TO HIM.

Same experience here. Several of my distributors and resellers who used
Nextel for their industrial customer field support have migrated to VZW for
better coverage at rural customer sites. The influx of camera and
    messaging phones has killed PTT.

Business will have to adapt when Sprint kills the IDEN network.

They will. Motorola still rents time on their trunk radio systems with
phone interconnect. You can't break those Moto walkies without using a
bulldozer. It works like the iDen they love but has lots more power and
    range.

    You better fact check that....

On 800, Nextel yanked the plug on ALL of the existing customers.
(Both the Moto 800 and the LTR 800 systems they took over)

I still remember the certified letters - and the backlash.

There isn't any maxtrac, (etc) customers on 800 anymore.
