Sprint is releasing the sph-500 (flip palm/phone) today. I saw a
picture and specs on here of the sgh-I500 which looks far better than
the sph. It had a memory slot and camera.
Does anyone know when Samsung will release the sgh-I500 in the US? Is
it only being released in Europe? If so, why must we settle for an
inferior piece of hardware?

Re: Samsung sph-I500 vs sgh-I500
The SPH-I500 has been available for a few weeks now. Rumor has it that
the SGH-I500 won't be out for at least several months, and it's a GSM
phone that will not be compatible with the SprintPCS network.

Yeah, but the SPH is shipping and the SGH is vapourware.
Somebody's got the be first out of the gate, which means they don't have
_everything_.

Re: Samsung sph-I500 vs sgh-I500
Does anyone know of any news regarding the SPH-i500 and the SGH-i500?
The as-yet-unreleased SGH-i500 seems so much more superior. More memory,
Palm OS 5.2, Intel/ARM RISC processor, SD expansion card, camera, built-in
Java....
It would seem to be a waste to buy the SPH-i500 if the SGH-i500 will be
available within the next 6 months.
I'm in the US, I'm hoping a version of the SGH-i500 will be made available
on some network.

The SGH has double the screen resolution , double the memory and a 5x
faster processor; might cost more?

That the SGH model is designed for GSM, not CDMA ... SPCS is strictly
1900 MHZ CDMA. Can't use a GSM phone through SPCS.

Thanks, Bob. Couldn't have said it better, myself!

Re: Samsung sph-I500 vs sgh-I500
The SGH sounds totally different than the SPH,
with the more ram, faster processor etc.
Hopefully there'll be a CDMA version

I've heard rumors of a "new" SPH-i500 in the pipeline whose specs more
closely match the SGH-i500. I wouldn't hold your breath though.

Ok, I see. Are there any GSM carriers within the US? I like SprintPCS a
lot, however I'd be willing to switch for this phone.

T-Mobile is the main GSM carrier, AT&T is in the middle of switching to
GSM.

Re: Samsung sph-I500 vs sgh-I500
Cingular is also switching from TDMA to GSM.
