Just bought a 1999 mercedes Kompressor that had a phone. I have sprint as
my service with four family members included. The phone is a motorola. Is
there a way to get sprint service in the car that has the same phone number
as my cell phone? The car phone has been made to detach from the car but it
is very bulky. But the car is wired that you can have wireless (through the
radio speakers) if you have service. Anyone have any idea?

You can only use that phone if it's CDMA 1900 mhz and if Sprint has
ever sold or supported it. Even if it's compatible, Sprint won't let
you activate a phone they haven't sold. Get the model number and call
    Sprint to see.

Prolly need to wait till Nov 24 when Number portability goes into effect.
Although Verizon is complaining the Sprint and Cingular refuse to have
trial tests to make sure it'll work.

Letsgoflyers81 made some good suggestions. As you have described the phone,
it sounds like an analog phone, which wouldn't be compatible with SPCS.

Best thing to do is either give SPCS customer service a call, or go down to
SPCS and see what car kits are available for those models for sale.

Maybe SPCS has a car kit adaptor for your current make and model phone you
    have SPCS right now.

Sounds like your car has a Telematics handset in it. Sprint PCS did
offer service for a lot of them, including the Mercedes Benz Timeport.

If it is one of those handsets, then it will work on Sprint PCS's
network, but I am not sure if Customer Solutions or a store will be able
to activate it, the Telematics handsets were purchased by Telematics
direct from the manufacturer to be added into Luxury line cars as part
of the package, but the plans were supplied by Sprint PCS and people
paid their bills to Sprint PCS>

Stores will not be able to perform software or PRL updates on these, and
troubleshooting will be minimal since most had their own software / PRL
versions (but they should be able to HP test them).
