Does anyone here know whether Sprint is serious about ever selling a
Bluetooth phone? I know they had announced they would be selling the
Sony Ericsson T608, but I've yet to find it anywhere, and SE announced
they would exiting the North American CDMA market....

Has anyone seen a Sprint Bluetooth phone or heard any real information
    on when one is coming?

Doesn't seem to make a lot of business sense does it?

What would be the attraction of a (hypothetical) Bluetooth phone?

One could leave it on their belt or in their purse, and it could be
automatically sensed and connected to a handsfree system in your car.

It could synchronize similarly with a blue tooth enabled computer
with little or no effort by the user. Current model Macintosh computers

    http://www.apple.com/bluetooth/

are available with Bluetooth capability and provide free software
    (iSynch)
    http://www.apple.com/isync/

for synchronizing cell phones' to do list and address books. It was
designed with Sony/Ericson SprintPCS phones in mind. Apple has just
introduced a wireless Bluetooth keyboard and mouse.

    http://www.apple.com/keyboard/

SprintPCS is to be commended for this effort in being technologically
advanced, although there seems to be no direct link on their website to
    bluetooth information.

But that would go against Sprints Terms of Service ???
Seems like they insist on a PDA/Phone Combo to be ligit ??

A bluetooth connection would be too slow to use a phone as a modem.
It is less than 10% of the speed of 802.11b (WiFi)

Not if you're using the bluetooth as a replacement for infrared, and you
don't have to buy cables either.

Also, a luxury line car (I forgot which one) is coming out with a
bluetooth adapter for a hands free kit (like how the Telematics handsets
    used to be set up).

And this is how it's done, in case someone is interested. My write-up on
a BT handsfree system I've put in my car:

    http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=785592

    (with pictures, explanations, impressions etc).

When closing my Sprint account about a year ago, I specifically cited
lack of Bluetooth-enabled phones as my reason to do so to the retention
CSA. I am going to have my wife pull her business account from SPCS to
ATTWS next month for the same reason, now that they don't want to sell
    her a T608.

That would be BMW, and this option is already available in US.

BLUETOOTH IS TOO SLOW TO USE FOR INTENET CONNECTIONS. No one uses
InfraRed for internet connections. Its too slow for that also.

Which btw BMW and other manufacturers have been using blue tooth in
their vehicles in europe for a while now.

Blue tooth is a great technology and it is something I wished sprint
had. I mean wouldn't it be cool to have a wireless headset for your
phone or be able to sync your computer and phone with a simple bluetooth
adapter instead of a specialized usb/serial cable that works for one
    model of phone only?

Sprint is pushing ahead with the T608, and it will be for sale sometime
    this year.
