Is there something common people are saying or doing to avoid the activation
charge when just replacing their current handset ? $36 to charge an
existing customer just because they bought a new phone is ridiculous.

btw, if it matters, my account is classified as a business account.

I've changed phones a number of times, and have never been charged
    an activation fee.

I'd imagine, however, that a no-contract plan might cost you the fee.

it's apparantly changed recently so it seems if you have a personal account
you'll be charged $36 the next go around. you can't even change phones
online any more unless you're upgrading from an old non vision phone so that
forces everyone to call in and get charged $36... but hopefully Rod is
correct and I won't get charged since being on a business account.

Then you would call the 800 number that
    handles Business Accounts:
888-788-4727, and there would never be a charge for an activation
    (under current rules).

If you ever are charged for an esn swap on a Business line,
a phone call to your companies' SprintPCS Sales Rep
and they should be able to reverse it off.

Then you shouldn't be getting charged anyway.
