If you plan to use your laptop regularly, take your Sprint PCS phone
back and look at the Verizon Express Network plans. Those plans allow
    laptop use.

Verizon apparently isn't afraid of laptop users bringing down their 3G
network. This either means that Verizon's network is far superior to
Sprint PCS', or laptop use really won't bring down the Sprint PCS 3G
network, and those who make these decisions at Sprint PCS are
incompetent and paranoid. I'll go with the latter.

If Sprint doesn't wake up soon and allow laptop connectivity with
Vision, many of us will be joining you over at Verizon as soon as
number portability is up and working...

Also I see Sprint released an updated version of their PCS Connection
Manager software earlier this month with the file description info still
clearly stating it's to be used in connecting a Vision phone to a PC.

If Sprint doesn't want us doing this, then why in the heck do they still
have this software on their website and informing us it's capable of doing
    something that they officially disallow???

As has already been pointed out, that's for Wireless Web. To be
completely clear on this, we are talking about two different
technologies with two different brand names. Wireless Web is a 2G
technology, circuit-switched data maxing out at 14.4KBps. Generally,
it's even slower than that. And for that, we *do* still support use of
2G/Wireless Web phones as modems. Up to a point. We'll try to help you
out with WinXP, but it is not officially supported, so it'll either work
    or not work. Period.

Vision is a 3G technology (OK, not technically, but close enough for
discussion here). Packet-switched data connections capable of speeds up
to 144KBps. And that is *not* supported, and in fact prohibited.

The two links you cite are for the former, older technology. And you
are welcome to use that, realizing, of course, that usage (depending
upon the add-ons in effect on your plan) will either cost 39¢/min, or
pull off your minutes just like a voice call would do so. *AND* if you
actually have a Wireless Web/2G phone, like the Samsung A460 (Off the
top of my head, I think that's the only Wireless Web phone we're still
selling nationwide). Vision phones cannot use Wireless Web, except to
be a "pure" modem and actually dial into some provider. And it is
39¢/min, period, no matter what add-on you put on your plan.

Good question. One no one has answered to me so far. If/when I get an=20
    answer, I'll let you know.

    Here's one thought, though:

The terms and conditions that I posted don't say you can't do it. Only=20
that Vision service packs don't cover it. Technically, I guess that=20
means it's not disallowed, just not covered by any flat-rate package.

The PCS connection manager software is intended for the wireless aircard
and/or the old 2G Wireless web handsets were using them as a modem will
use minutes.. Sprint PCS does not support Vision Handsets to be used as
modems. If they notice it being done, they have ALL right to suspend
your vision privilages. It is in the Terms of Service, take a few
    minutes to read it..

Ok people lets look at the names of the service:

    Wireless Web
    and
    PCS Vision

Both are different. Wireless Web is the original Web connection from all
PRE 3G-phones, It uses MINUTES when connecting.

PCS Vision is for web connectivinty of the new high-speed PCS 3G Vision
Handsets. This connection youes Data Transfered ammount to bill you
    instead of minutes.

So basically anything labeled as WIRELESS WEB is for all PRE-3G
    handsets!

And anything Labeled as PCS VISIOn, or just VISION, is for all current
    3G handsets.

And the state attorney general will not take the case becuz it doesnt
say VISION.. It says WIRELESS WEB which is thier OLD way of connecting
to the web.. The case would be thrown out.

Re: Sprint threatend to suspend my account.

The reason why is express network uses minutes, instead of billing your
per kilobyte of usage.. If Sprint PCS wasn't offering UNLIMITED Vision
usage for $10-$15 a month, the would allow it.. So if Sprint ever
decides to offer MB plans for the phones like they do the connection
cards, they will probably start allowing the use of a phone as a modem
for laptops since there is some type of limit.

IMO I do not think it is a matter of all the usage boggin down the
network.. I think it is a conflict of intrest when it comes to the
internet services Sprint Already offers.. Sprint has a deal with
earthlink to offer customers internet access, and also areas covered by
Sprint LOCAL service offer Sprint DSL. Why would any customer want to
sign up for either of these if they can have unlimited internet access
for only $10-$15 a month instead of cost of DSL service or dial-up
    service..Makes some sence don't it???

At First when Vision FIRST came out, They WERE on MB pricing. They had
different packages, of like 2mb, 4mb, 8mb etc.. And during that time the
phones were allowed to be used as modems because they HAD a limit.. But
Basically from what I understand, They switched everyone to unlimited
Vision, becuase they had not developed a working way for customers to
check their data usage, and they did not want to confuse the customers
with something as complicated as amount of data transfered.. Shortly
after that Sprint PCS pulled all phone to Laptop data cables off thier
shelf, and stopped selling them because of the possiblity of MIS-USE
once customers learned they had unlimted internet access.

But there are per-Kilo and unlimited EN plans too; in fact as I understand
it, the Express Network plans that use minutes are not supposed to be used
for data calls, instead they are to be used for picture messaging, push-to-
talk and other features that *require* 1xRTT connections. I'm lucky - I got
EN MOU added to my account and only pay for the airtime I use, but it's not
supposed to be set up that way.

Express network is automatically added to every account, at least thats
wut I have seen so far.. I havent heard that you cant use the phone as a
modem, becuase it uses minutes while on the express network.. The MB
plans are sued for the data cards I believe.

I'm sure I could get an MB plan on the 1x-capable phone I have too, if I
found I was using too much airtime. But what's this... EN MOU is now added
automatically? I thought VZw made a big stink about *not* adding EN MOU.

Yes Express Network is added to all new account.. It is needed fo most
of the phones to even operate now.. basically is like Sprint PCS,
Accound account with a Vision phone MUST have IP BASIC on the account to
work properly. This basically allows the 3G phones to even access the 3G
    network.

Where is this restriciton stated on Verizion's website? The Express
Network plan descriptions practically encourage laptop use. I read
the Verizion Express Network TOS about a month ago, and there was no
such restriction. The only restrictions were that laptop data calls
were to be used for applications such as email and web browsing.
    Server-type applications were prohibited.

I am a Verizon user with Americas Choice Share plan and I have cable
internet. Cable went out a while back on the weekend and would not be
back up for at least 24 hours. I called Verizon CS, explained my
situation and they added Express Network - minutes of use to my account.
I was able to connect my computer thru my cell phone to the internet.
Downloads around 90K - not as fast as cable but acceptable for wireless
    connections.
