Tri Mode Dual band????

I currently am using a sanyo 4900, and while traveling today, my 4900
showed digital roaming--two things confused me, if it can roam digitally
with only a dual band, what is the advantage of the tri mode, which I
understand my 5300 has.

Would the tri mode allow roaming on say the verizon 800 cdma.

The second thing that surprised me, the phone was set to sprint only,
yet it asked for permission to make a call while roaming---I turned the
phone off/on and was back to sprint?

This area is sort of weird roaming area (middle Tennessean) caller id
would no work on my verizon phone there--sprint worked normally, when on
sprint system.

A dual band phone will pick up 800MHz analog and 1900MHz CDMA.
A tri-mode phone will also pick up 800MHz CDMA.

The only thing I can think of is that there is another 1900MHz carrier
there, perhaps an affiliate that is not in your SID list? Take it to a
store to see if a PRL update helps.

Yea, that's what I assumed guessed) about the tri mode, the roam had me
puzzled. thankns for the info.

Sprint PCS only mode means Digital Only. It will still roam out on
Verizon's network it just won't go into analog.

"Sprint PCS only" mode will only pick up the digital 1900MHz CDMA, it
will not pick up 800MHz CDMA (digital).

Some places Verizon does use 1900MHz, but not many.

My Samsung SPH-i300 does.
It will also roam to analog.
