I have an old Samsung SCH-1000 that I want to give to a friend to leave in his
glovebox just to call 911 in an emergency. Could someone tell me how to clear
out my phone number from the phone so that if someone breaks into his car they
won't get my phone number along with my old phone? The reps at Sprint tell me
that the phone is so old they don't have the code for it on file any longer.

    TIA

Nomen, did you already ask this? This looks *very* familiar.

Anyway, you may be able to program a phone number with all 0's if you=20
can get the programming procedure and MSL. A PCS rep might even be able=20
    to walk you through it.

    I work for SprintPCS
    I *don't* speak for them.

Apparently thats a big no-no. Tqake the phone into a SprintPCSstore and
tell them how you're going to give/sell the phone and want to clear it
    first.

if the phone is not activated why would it matter if someone got your phone
    #?

Because he still uses that number on his new phone.

But again, so what? If you stole/found a phone with
a phone number in it, what good would it do you even
though the number is currently in use? Any number
    will eventually be recycled anyway.

Maybe he doesn't want to risk harassing phone calls. It wouldn't do ME any
"good," but then again a stolen cell phone isn't worth a ton either, it's
    just something assholes do.

Nomen, call customer service and ask for the Trouble Management
department, ask them to reprogram the phone with all 0's.
