    I used to a $45 plan. Last month, in the middle of my billing cycle,
    I got a discount through my employer. Sprint told me that they have
    to change my plan to a business type account, the monthly fee stays
    the same and I should receive my discount in my next bill.

    When bill came, I noticed that I did get my discount, but Sprint
    charged me one and a half times my usual monthly fee. When I called,
    Custom Service Rep (CSR) told me, they charge one month ahead, plus
    one half of the month because my new plan start in the middle of my
    billing cycle.

    I don't think this is right. I already paid one WHOLE month ahead for
    my old plan in my last bill. If Sprint charges me one half month for
    my NEW plan, shouldn't they refund the same amount for my OLD plan?

    New plan and old have the same monthly fee. No matter when I switch
    plan, I should still pay the same monthly fee. According to Sprint's
    logic, if I switch my plan near the beginning of the billing cycle, I
    would have to pay for the new plan from the day I switch to the end of
    the billing cycle (almost a whole month), plus one month ahead.

    The CSR did not seem to understand that if they charge me for the new
    plan for the remainder of the month, they should refund the same
    amount for my old plan for the same period. These two should cancel
    out, is that right?

    Can you tell me how can I explain this to the CSR?

    It shouldn't take a rocket scientist to figure this out.

    Thanks.

    Just let them know that you need the credit for proration, you should
    definitely have received it. I would call back and speak with another
    rep. Let me know if you need any other help.

    Re: Billing question -- switch plan in the middle of billing cycle

    Be careful when switching plans in the middle of the bill cycle. I
    finally had it explained to me by a Sprint Exec Svcs rep how it works
    with minutes.

    Your minutes are prorated on a DAILY basis.

    FOR EXAMPLE:

    (And I know this plan doesn't exist, just easier to do the math)

    You have a 200 ANYTIME plan.

    There are 20 ANYTIME days in a month.

    You get 10 ANYTIME minutes per day.

    IF you change plans 10 days into the month, you would think they
    prorate and give you 100 minutes. NOT THE CASE.

    Your minutes are figured DAILY. If on day 1 you use 60 minutes, and
    NONE the rest of that 10 days in the old plan, you are debited 10
    minutes from your plan, and the other 50 is OVERAGE.

    They figure how many per DAY, not total for the prorated period.

    SO, in essence, you could use 60 of your 100 minutes, and if you use
    them all in one day, you could have 20.00 in overage charges.

    SO BE CAREFUL!!!

    Re: Billing question -- switch plan in the middle of billing cycle

    A new account was created for you to get your employee discount.

    Will will probably recive two bills in the same month. Each bill will a
    different account number on them.

    One will be your old account number, which should have a partial month
    credit. This is crediting you the unsed portion of the month you already
    paid in advance.

    The second bill will be from your new account with discount.
    If will basically be charging your a prorated partial month, plus a full
    month in advance.

    So just keep a look out for a bill from your orinigal account.. You will
    recive it around the same time you used to recive your bills before you
    made the change to you account.. You will probably end up having a
    credit balance on your old account which will end up being sent as a
    refund check after it has gone though the refund process.

    Now If they did not have to create a new account for you, you should see
    a prorated credit and a prorated charge all all the same bill. but by
    your story it does not seem to have been done this way, so the previous
    explanation is probably to right one.

    I know that I recently changed to a FCA plan befoe the $5 add-on, and on
    my Oct.1 bill I saw they started the new plan on Sep. 30. What I had
    was a $1.33 credit for the old plan and a $1.50 charge for one day Sep.
    30. You might want to re-check your bill and look a little lower (below
    your plan listing detail) and see if you did not get a credit for 1/2
    month of your old plan.

    OK, this is kind of complicated, and there are some details about what may =
    have=20
    happened that you haven't told us (probably because you yourself weren't to=
    ld,=20
    and a big BOO-HISS! to the rep if they didn't).

    When a customer of SPCS tries to take advantage of a corporate discount, we=
    =20
    track that by attaching them to a special corporate account called a=20
    "hierarchy." That hierarchy has a bill date. When a SPCS customer becomes=
    a=20
    part of that hierarchy, its billing date must be changed to match the compa=
    ny=20
    bill date.

    In order to accomplish that, a variety of options become available. The bi=
    ll=20
    date might be moved backwards to match up. Or forward. Or, if the dates a=
    re=20
    too far off, then a new account must be opened with the company's bill date=
    ,=20
    and all subscriptions moved to the new account.

    You mention that you were charged a month and a half of your Monthly Recurr=
    ing=20
    Charge (MRC). You don't mention how your bill date changed. It's possible=
    =20
    that, once all the changes were calculated, that turned out to be correct. =
    =20
    Here's how it might work if it's correct:

    Let's say your previous bill date was the 10th, and the company's date is t=
    he=20
    25. About half a month off. In all actuality, this would probably require=
    =20
    creating the new account. Let's say you changed it on the 24th. In time t=
    o=20
    get on the company's cycle before it moved into a new billing month. The o=
    ld=20
    account will get finalized, and you'll get a final bill for any overage,=20
    downloads, and so on. Plus a credit for the half-month you didn't use. Th=
    e=20
    new account now has a half-month to charge leading up to the 25th, and then=
    the=20
    normal MRC. It's possible that the balance on the old account gets transfe=
    rred=20
    over, although we usually don't do that (in the long run, it's easier for t=
    he=20
    customer to understand two bills than one bill involving charges across two=
    =20
    accounts). Not only do the charges get prorated, but so do the minutes. S=
    o if=20
    you were most of the way to your 500 minutes, you could have wound up charg=
    ed=20
    overage. =20

    And that is probably the key. Did you just look at the final total? You d=
    on't=20
    say that your old account was closed (and that may be because our rep forgo=
    t to=20
    explain this). But the charges during such a switch can get pretty cumbers=
    ome. =20
    Aside from spending limit customers who seem to need the last four months=
    =20
    explained to them to figure out how they got suspended for exceeding that=
    =20
    limit, this can be one of the longest calls I take.

    I know that's not a complete picture, but maybe I've drawn enough of an out=
    line=20
    that you start to see what might have happened? If not, let me know. I'll=
    see=20
    if I can draw a better picture.

    I don't see why it should be so complicated. There are 30 days in a
    month. No matter when I switch plan, I only use 30 days of your
    service in a month. So I should pay 30-day's fee every month, if I
    continue to use your service.

    In this case, I switched plan in the middle of the month, SprintPCS
    should charge me 1.5-months for the new plan, refund me half-month for
    the old plan, two half-month fees cancel out, I still pay one month.
    What makes it complicated?

    You are right, SprintPCS created a new account for me for my new plan,
    with a new bill date. The bill I have received is for the new
    account. I have not received the bill for the old plan though.

    I understand. I would not have any problem if Sprint Reps had told me
    this and sent me the refund for the old plan.

    I am still wondering why the Rep never mentioned anything about the
    credit of my old plan. He kept explaining to me why I was charged 1.5
    months for the new plan.

    Thank you for your explanation.
