Here's my X-Mas wish list for SPCS email.
Meta brought up this issue up earlier and I wanted to follow up on it.
SPCS needs to fix their email module, and quickly. I don't know about
the rest of you, but I'm just getting a ton of spam sent to my
sprintpcs.com address. Seems like everyone is either pushing Viagra,
a natural Viagra substitute, mortgages, health insurance, term life
insurance ... what ever.
Last night, I woke up three times between 2:00 AM to 5:00 AM, with my
phone ringing with a new notification. Needless to say, I didn't get a
full night's sleep.
There are several main items which need fixing.
1) On line via laptop or regular computer, it's design is minimalistic
to say the least, with no feature to check all, or to add a filter
immediately. To add a filter, one has to go into preferences, to add
it. Once the filter is added, there is no function to apply the filter
to knock out current spam. There should be the ability on the email
screen to apply personal filters immediately.
2) SPCS needs to add a SPAM filter internally to their email server,
instead of having yours truly have to create filters for each changed
subject header. I have all my SPCS email forwarded to my earthlink
acct, and I see less than 20% of the forwarded SPCS email in my
earthlink inbox. Earthlink, Yahoo, and all my other email accounts
have spam filters and bulk mail folders on their respective servers
.... Why can't SPCS do the same thing?
I don't access email much at all on my phone. I do use it
occasionally, when I ask my home office to send me short emails to
confirm changes of insurance coverages for my clients, when I've
visiting my clients. Also get some other stuff sent by family or
friends, like pictures, etc.
3) It would be nice if the email software on the phone was redesigned
as well, with the ability to check all in the inbox, to delete all
those emails from the phone, without having to go through each email
to either move it or delete it.

Knock on wood I don't have this problem with my SPCS account ---- now
another of my "regular" accounts I've had to abandon due to spam.

Ya, nothing like a pushy insurance guy --- LOL (just kidding Bob --- just
kidding)

Are you sure it is spam filters working for you, or SPCS not forwarding the
stuff? I'd suspect the latter due to some experiments I've run with
forwarding to an aacount that has no filtering of any sort and dreadful
success rates forwarding mail. Frankly, due to it's hit or miss nature, I'd
not rely on this aspect of the service. I also highly question how much of
the mail that's sent to a SPCS mailbox ever making it, again learned from my
testing on MY account.

I'm with you ---- I hate to scroll to the bottom of a note to delete / move
it. There are easier ways.
Shame of it is this isn't rocket science, and many many off the shelf open
source programs would / could do the trick.
All the best

I don't want to be 'defensive' for SPCS, but I don't think they are in a
better/worse postion than other ISP's...
But the more they grow, the bigger the target..
And if default mailboxes are in the form [email protected] spammers
will just rotor through all the numbers in an evening, hunting 'victims'....
Also, please don't take the next one 'personal' but...have you or do you
engage in 'promiscuous' behavious with your SPRINTPCS email address . That
is, have you EVER posted it to a WEB page or USENET group. If so, your
address will be 'sold' over and over again....You need to consider changing
addresses!

Suggested interim fix, if it is getting to be a real pain: Use SPAMCOP
(spamcop.net ) not .com!
Filer for $30 a year... Don't know it will work with sprintpcs.com, but
should!
It works like this....
SPAMCOP 'pops' sprintpcs.com...
You 'pop' SPAMCOP...
Warning: Until you setup your whitelist, it may seem draconian. At least
some people think so

Again, any chance in your business, that you address was 'published'?

I think the basic problem is we are dealing with a company (SPRINTPCS) that
knows it needs to rapidly grow it's network, rapidly deploy PTT, rapidly add
features in an environment where possible chaos may breakout with 'number
portability' (people rolling in / people roll out)
On top of that there are those people called 'stockholder' who want a return
on their investment!
I just with there was a customer forum / 'focus groups' / polling for new
features / functions etc .etc

I just checked via webmail on my earthlink account, and yes ... all
the emails were forwarded ... and again, a majority of those were
placed in the "known spam" inbox ...

That's exactly what's happening as they are bulk emails, with similar
respondant names ... I don't know about what the other ISP's are
doing, but EL, RR, even Yahoo & Myway have put in bulk or known spam
filters into their email servers ...

Not taking it personal at all Joe ... . I don't visit promiscuous
sites, at least not on purpose ...I hit an occasional one when
checking out links provided by Google. And to answer your question, I
don't leave any email addresses at those sites.

It's something that I shouldn't have to do ... That's the ISP's
responsibility.

No, not possible.

Well, once PTT & SMS is released, this email situation needs to be put
on the Top 10 things to fix list.
